New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman Resigns

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has resigned after an expose in the New Yorker Magazine presented allegations from former relationships of aggressive controlling behavior, physical violence, forceable theft of prescription medicine, drug, alcohol and sexual abuse.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo urged the beleaguered politician to step down citing the explosive evidence and corroboration contained within the article which was co-authored by Jane Mayer and Ronan Farrow, who also authored the explicit article on Hollywood Mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Cuomo said, “The New Yorker has published an article on Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, which reports multiple women making serious allegations of assault. No one is above the law including New York’s top legal officer. I will be asking an appropriate New York District Attorney to commence an immediate investigation. And proceed as the facts merit. My personal opinion is that, given the damning pattern of facts and corroboration laid out in the article, I do not believe it is possible for Eric Schneiderman to continue to serve as Attorney General, and for the good of the office he should resign.”

Schneiderman also responded with a statement, "It's been my great honor and privilege to serve as Attorney General for the people of the State of New York. In the last several hours, serious allegations, which I strongly contest, have been made against me. While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office's work at this critical time. I therefore resign my Schneiderman released a statement, after office, effective at the close of business on May 8, 2018."

Michelle Manning Barish, one of the women who suffered abuse by Schneiderman, posted this message via twitter, “After the most difficult month of my life – I spoke up. For my daughter and for all women. I could not remain silent and encourage other women to be brave for me. I could not . . “

The allegations detail a dual personality, one dedicated to the power of his position and the private personality dedicated to abuse an entitlement of his position.

Schneiderman is alleged to have aggressive controlling behaviors, engaging in sexual behavior that is not consensual including slapping women during intimacy. He is alleged to have stolen prescription drugs taking “about half” a prescription of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax. He engaged in physical abuse, grabbing the women’s faces and shaking them, of more than one of the four women vetted by the magazine. He is also accused of mocking the sorrows of the Sandy Hook parents and Gun Control supporters calling the “losers.”

Schneiderman indicated in a statement prior to his resignation indicating he engaged in role playing during sexual intimacy and in his private life. All actions he said were consensual.

New York Gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon, posted three messages via twitter, “The description by these brave women of the physical and sexual abuse they suffered at the hands of NY attorney General Eric Schneiderman are sickening. It is the right decision for him to resign immediately. And in a second statement The woman who came forward so courageously to tell their stories and spared others from suffering are heroines. The investigation should continue. We need to get to the bottom of the enormous culture of silence that protects those in power. We must continue to work to end this national epidemic.”

Schneiderman, who had been tapped as a possible successor to Governor Cuomo, was set to run for a third term this fall. And while he is in the spotlight now, and may face criminal charges if New York District Attorney Cy Vance deems appropriate, there is a law firm in the Battery that has become known for harboring a season in their dark past which includes rape, harboring pedophiles, conspiracy to commit murder, hampering an investigation, fraud, and treason, and that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
