Former U.S. Olympic gymnastics coach John Geddert, 63, was found dead, by Michigan State Troopers at a rest area, of an apparent self-inflicted gun shot hours after he had been charged with 20 counts of human trafficking.

The U.S. Olympic Gymnastic scandal continues to reveal the appalling details of years of systemic sexual assault, known and incorporated into daily life for the nation's top female gymnastic athletes as they attended elite training camps.

"The other charges, announced Thursday, included two counts of sexual assault against children between the ages of 13 and 16, according to court documents, which did not disclose whether the acts involved more than one victim. Geddert also was charged with 20 counts of human trafficking relating to his use of "force, fraud and coercion against the young athletes that came to him for gymnastics training for financial benefit to him," [Michigan Attorney Dana] Nessel said, The Washington Post reported.

Geddert worked for decades with convicted pedophile Dr. Larry Nassar, who was eventually convicted of sexually assaulting more than 265 elite female athletes during his tenure at the Karolyi Ranch in Texas, under the leadership of Romanian husband and wife team Bele and Marta Karolyi.

Geddert is the second Olympic Gymnastic coach to commit suicide. Marvin Sharp killed himself in 2015 after being charged with sexual assault of 14-year-old.

"He [Sharp] had been an Olympic coach for Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics in 2008 and was the national governing body's Coach of the Year in 2010. Geddert and Sharp both had tangential ties to the saga of longtime USA Gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar, who is serving a 175-year prison sentence. Nassar worked and traveled with both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic teams," reported the IndyStar.com

The culture of obedience is more than common in large corporate environments it is necessary for career advancement.

The complicit circle of secrecy, integral to life in any competitive career choice, remains intact especially in corporate law firms and apparently in every organization where high achieving athlete's, scholars, or creatives are dependent on those with the power to destroy a lifetime of training, study, or work for failing to maintain the secret.

The U.S. Olympic Gymnastic scandal and the subsequent investigation by the Indianapolis Star Newspaper became the foundation for the Netflix documentary, Athlete A, which exposes the shocking, prevalent, heinous sexual assault and abuse scandal at the core of our national pride and honor, the USA Gymnastics organization.

Geddert's website, TheGymnasticsCoach.com remains active and is filled with training videos as well as positive reviews for his coaching style and techniques. The ability to lead the double life is imperative to these types of predators. They must remain above reproach to deflect and to cause authorities to doubt the victim.
