Hollywood Week: CES Las Vegas, Reiner Murder Update, Golden Globe Predictions

The annual Consumer Electronics Show went live this week in Las Vegas, showcased every gizmo, gadget, robot, smart home feature, and innovation of the future, and included speakers addressing advancing technologies and their impact on everyday lives.

During the media preview, LG Electronics revealed a wide selection of Smart Home features, BOSCH provided an overview of a variety of verticals outside of the home, including the anti-counterfeit technology Origify, a solution that provides unique digital identities to products by capturing their individual surface microstructures (like fingerprints) for secure cloud verification via smartphone apps, creating a "digital DNA" to detect fakes without visible marks. Wow!

LEGO also held their media preview, introducing the SMART block, and while the crowd seemed to be wowed by the demonstration, the building block of the future moves away from the magic of creating towers, trucks, and anything a child can imagine to a set of directives which some would say limits the imagination others would say enhances and expands the possibilities.

CES is a magnet for every industry and entertainment keynote panels presented topics on how to address and engage future generations of users, and more importantly what is valuable to them. Of course, the topic of AI was discussed across all mediums, and the panelists agreed multi-national companies such as Coca-Cola, and in direct reference to the recent Coca-Cola Christmas commercial, should steer clear of utilizing all AI, and bridge the creator divide and build up the next generation of creators. The panelists, all under 25, had built digital companies across industries that matter to teens. They also impressed that the digital businesses are a bridge, and what gave each of these panelists purpose as teens, they have outgrown and moved to the next level.

After the preview days, the main event the CES 2026 show, the first convention to utilize the entirely rebuilt convention center, which spans two city blocks, opened. Autonomous vehicles from WAYMO to Smart Farming to aid farmers with autonomous planters and harvesters and motion sensors to highlight irrigation needs or infestations to enhanced mobility wheelchairs that ascend and descend staircases were on display.

Tech News: From Dupe Culture to Digital Deception - Inside the AI-Driven Counterfeit Boom (Part 2)

Trends that were evident after walking through the myriad of home, entertainment, and lifestyle displays were the balance between the old and the new. Many home entertainment displays included retro designed products, refrigerators designed from the 1950s, with utilizing modern technologies. The Boom Box seems to have been reborn and situated alongside the micro music players. Design engineers have recognized a sense of nostalgia in consumers as we fast-forward into the technological age of robotics, and smart homes.

A combination of the old and new allows consumers to slowly advance, integrating the products that fit into their lifestyle, while keeping others that provide comfort. Does every home need a robot?

The Stern Pinball display, a collection of ten classic style pinball machines, modernized with themes from "The Walking Dead," "JAWS," "Metallic," and several "Star Wars" themes, where a big hit with attendees. The machines were always in use, and lines formed. Beside this booth the Robotic Chess arm, which was also a big hit. Another surprising showstopper was the Ping-pong robot. Videos are available here.

The various robotics displays were impressive, and while the world sees the integration of robots as imperative to streamline manufacturing operations, the healthcare industry is where robotics will have a major impact creating technologies that counter permanent impairments will revolutionize the healthcare and robotic industries and benefit humanity.

With the world of technology companies attending the Consumer Electronics Show it was difficult to see each display, although with the right walking shoes, it was possible to cover the majority of those on display.

Reiner Murder Update

Nick Reiner, who has been in custody, although not formally arraigned or charged, for the murder of his parents, Rob Reiner, and Michele Singer-Reiner, on December 14, 2025.

High-powered LA lawyer Alan Jackson, who had previously represented Reiner, abruptly withdrew from the case, explaining in the courtroom, "we feel we have no choice," but to withdraw from the case.

"'The attorney who was representing Nick Reiner, accused of killing his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, unexpectedly withdrew from the case during what was supposed to be Nick Reiner's arraignment Wednesday, but made a bold declaration afterward: "Take this to the bank. Pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder. Print that! Print that!,"' CBSnews.com reported.

Research Mr. Jackson's statement, "Pursuant to the law of California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder," would most likely mean: Under California law, based on how murder is defined and proven, Nick Reiner does not meet the legal requirements for a murder conviction.

At this stage in the legal proceedings, that statement could imply a distinction between moral vs. legal guilt and does not necessarily say Nick Reiner is innocent of all wrongdoing—only that the crime of murder, as defined by California law, is not satisfied. He could still be guilty of a lesser offense (e.g., manslaughter) or another crime.

Reiner has been assigned a public defender, Kimberly Greene, and his arraignment has been rescheduled to February 23, 2026.
