Jealousy Alleged Motive in Houston Family Massacre

A jealous former lover entered the Houston suburb home of his former girlfriend, through an unlocked window Saturday night, and proceeded to restrain and systemically execute every member of the family, including his own biological son.

David Ray Conley III, 49, an ex-con with a rap sheet that includes domestic violence, had an outstanding second offense warrant for domestic violence, dated July 08, 2015, for allegedly pushing his then girlfriend, the deceased Valerie Jackson’s face into the refrigerator after she attempted to stop Conley from beating the now deceased child.

Police sources have indicated they were contacted Saturday night, no less than three times to complete a Welfare Check, once with the possibility of a gunshots heard, on the persons in the home to determine if the individuals were in need to medical or judicial assistance.

A Welfare Check consists of local police authorities approaching the home, and asking to visually see the individual and then asking the same person if they are in danger or need assistance of any kind.

Officers explained the inhabitants of the home were unresponsive to repeated attempts to check and attempted to enter the home, when they were fired upon. They retreated and called for back-up and the High Risk Operations Unit.

Conley was charged with capital murder in the deaths of his former girlfriend, Valerie Jackson, 40, her husband, Daryl Jackson, 50, and six children, Nathaniel, 13; Honesty, 11; Dwayne, Jr., 10; Caleb, 9; Trinity, 7; and Jonah, 6. The victims were found in each of the three bedrooms inside the house.

Conley is being held in Harris County Jail on two charges of capital murder and one charge of capital murder of a child under the age of six. Upon conviction Conley will face the possibility of death by lethal injection.

Police were called to the scene after neighbors reported shots fired shortly after 9:00pm, Saturday. The situation quickly escalated as responding officers assessed the threat and unable to neutralize called the High Risk Operations team who determined a hostage situation was in play.

Officers formed a perimeter and attempted to position themselves to maximize visibility into the darkened home.

A body of a child was seen, through a window, which intensified and changed the strategy. Officers called in hostage negotiators who managed to keep the suspect occupied as tactical teams surrounded the home and entered the residence through a rear door.

Police exchanged gunfire and wounded the suspect. He was removed from the home.

The carnage was discovered upon entry. The rampage was the second mass home invasion murder in Harris County, Texas.

One year ago the Stay Family had been taken hostage by a relative and all six, including four children and their parents had been killed by a relative.
