Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie Review – Enjoyable, A Masterpiece, Fun For All

Captain Underpants from DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox Distribution, bring to the screen a charming imaginative adventure that shows the power of friendships, of collaborators, and the need for one true friend and fellow confidant.

Directed by David Soren Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie stars the voice talent of Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch as primary school pranksters George and Harold. Ed Helms voices the terrorizing principal Mr. Krupp and the epic Superhero Captain Underpants.

Nick Kroll voices Science Teacher Professor P and Class genius and teacher’s pet Melvin voiced by Jordan Peele. The epic screenplay written by Nicholas Stoller based on globally phenomenal epic novels by Dav Pillkey.

Captain Underpants begins with the narration by these two young future studio storytellers George and Harold with flashes of the great Captain Underpants in comic book drawings handling the heroics of the city across the screen.

The boys, which we find out, met in Kindergarten when they both laughed as the teacher explained the gassiest planet was called Uranus. A friendship was formed as the two realized they had the same humor and a bond cemented.

Soon the two were enlightening the darkened halls of grade school with laughter, fun and wild pranks which is where we met Mr. Krupp the terrorizing trolling principal who has made it his life’s work to made school a dull, boring prison.

After George and Harold pull off the mother of all pranks and the two are celebrating another brilliant successful school interruption, they are called to the principal’s office as horror upon horrors, a nanny cam caught them!

The Boss Baby Review - Charming, A Romper Room of Silliness and Fun

Finally, Krupp, who seems to grow right in front of their eyes bellows, “I have you” as he throws back his head in sinister laughter.

Suddenly the two realize as they head back to the awesome creative think tank tree house Krupp in his evil mind believes that separating them, putting the two in different classes will somehow be the demise of the dynamic duo’s.

The two decide the best thing to do is steal the evidence and stop what they believe is the unraveling of their friendship, their future, their life!

Soon they are uncovering the treasure trove of confiscated Harold and George laughing prankster tools! Every Captain Underpants comic book the two ever wrote; the hypnotizing pinkie ring, the super, duper, water squirt gun with auto reload! Everything except the turtle nanny cam!

Caught! Oh no! Mr. Krupp catches our dynamic duo red handed and in desperation our storyteller George and artist Harold uses the hypnotizing ring and suddenly the two seeing Mr. Krupp is falling under their spell change evil principalKrupp into Captain Underpants the caped crusader in tighty whities!

I was really impressed with Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, it was more than potty humor, sentimental in places, and really flushed out the need for fun, laughter, and the friend who always has your back, your best buddy, the one you can count on through thick and thin.

Screening Captain Underpants in an audience with children one can gauge the laughter meter and the kids loved the film with one child dancing in front of the screen to the awesome soundtrack as the credits rolled!

With most finishing up the school year with all those unresolved feelings and anxiety of the next year the kids in the audience found great humor in the antics of our heroes George and Harold.

Captain Underpants also encouraged the creative arts which is Hollywood is common and in the rest of the world maybe not so, especially as art programs in schools face continued threats of destruction. Seeing the characters draw the cartoons and tell the story keeps artistic expression alive!

The story is told, and often narrated by George and Harold who are fourth graders and so keeping in check with the film the animation stayed on that track, like a fourth grader, albeit a gifted fourth grader, would draw.

Captain Underpants is flawless, really. One would think with the name that animation and the studios would be pushing the limits once again and trying to infiltrate the minds of the masses with some sort of subliminal adult themes laced through a children’s film, that is not the case: Captain Underpants is pure fourth grade humor and while it has been some time since most of us have been there an audience of children will take you right back to those days when life was school, home, friends, and, fun days!

The Animation is CGI or Computer-Generated Imagery so nearly all scenes are completed on a computer. Captain Underpants with the name obviously has potty language, boy humor, sock puppets, tree houses and of course the man champion who struts in his briefs.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is fun filled, a rollicky ride, through the mind of fourth grade boys and their greatest love: A Comic Book hero, complete with cape, that they create and love. The film takes the adult back to the time when the regime ruled and school was all about getting around the rules, learning enough to earn passing grades before the pressures of the future invade.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is playing in theaters everywhere. Captain Underpants is genuinely enjoyable, a treat for all ages, fun for girls and boys! And comes with a great soundtrack! See it!
