World News: French President Macron Faces No Confidence Vote, PM Out

By coming to terms with the right and especially the far right, the Government has allowed itself to be caught in the trap of the National Rally by evading the left-wing alliance, which is more open to dialogue.

Faced with two motions of censure, the executive's stubbornness risks throwing the country into uncertainty. However, history has taught it time and again: it is never good to negotiate or make a pact with the extremes.

World News: Diplomatic Transformation and the Illusion of World Peace

Thus, whatever the result of the motions of censure presented to the National Assembly, the Prime Minister in office, Michel Barnier, must already, and bitterly, regret having acceded to the demands of the National Rally. In endless blackmail, the far-right party, using and abusing the weakness of a government with feet of clay, has asserted its demands against the assurance of support that is as fragile as it is risky.

And like any self-respecting blackmail, this one has been punctuated by ever more numerous demands, exposing the Government to the mercy of a party which, without being in the majority, has been able, through its presence and internal discipline, to stand up and impose itself as one of the keystones of the parliamentary architecture.

Narrow Base and Agenda

In an almost nauseating cynicism, the National Rally has slowly closed its trap to the point of deciding the future of the Government on its own. It is true that the task had been made very easy insofar as the executive had only a narrow base of deputies capable of monitoring and supporting the measures proposed by the Government.

Swept away by the populist wave that is shaking Western democracies, Michel Barnier had no choice but to give in in order to hope to last, when he was barely appointed, he was already condemned by a high-risk agenda because it affected the sacrosanct state budget. In the end, it was the Social Security budget that focused all eyes, especially those of the right, the far right and the Government, which was anxious for the latter to satisfy only these particular partners, abandoning the left-wing deputies in the process, even though their support was, in hindsight, most valuable.

Chaos and Europe

Therefore, with the probable fall of Michel Barnier, a new war of succession will open both on the right and within the hemicycle where all the parties will claim governmental legitimacy. This suggests that the motion of censure is just another step in the political imbroglio that arose in the aftermath of the dissolution that propelled the country into unprecedented political chaos.

Between the recklessness of the executive and the crisis of the regime, France finds itself caught in a rare storm where a conservative government holds the reins of the affairs of a nation that has sent left-wing deputies to the National Assembly (without the latter having a majority) in debates arbitrated by a far-right party. A grotesque situation mocked in Europe, France appearing as a nation of exemplary stability, a stability that it has always built with a certain arrogance. Backlash...
