Dark Asset Review – Fast Moving, Strong Action, Intriguing Storyline

Dark Asset, from Saban Films, brings to the screen the story of a clandestine espionage program that implants citizens with a special technology chip that turns even the common man into a controlled super asset.

The film begins as the lights come up and Dr. Cain, played by Robert Patrick, gives the go signal and those in the observation room, Dr Cain’s assistant Vivian, played by Sabina Gadecki, Computer technician Alex, played by Marc Winnick, and Agent Wilds, played by Shani Rigsbee begin to activate a tablet which we see is connected via an implanted chip to the test subject.

On the other side of the window is our test subject John, played by Byron Mann. Once the chip is activated a blue ring appears in his eye, and he is instantly more aware of his surroundings, can quickly assess his challenges, and the chip as it is explained improves cognitive function.

The doctor explains he can drop suggestions into the subject through simple computer commands and he explains that while they provide suggestions, the subject’s brain takes over and either acts on them or does not.

After a few beginning stumbles, the test subject with clarity completes each task, and then with precision he unexpectedly overtakes and kills the two former marines guarding him and begins to break through the glass partition.

CARLOS: The Santana Journey Review – Entertaining, Engaging, Captivating, A Must See

As the doctor is screaming to abort, and John is not responding to the forced shutdown. He escapes the room and makes his way to the basement and becomes a one-man killing machine as he takes out the team of soldiers who are ordered to stop his escape. He makes it to a computer and begins to enter code.

This is where the film shifts to a two-hander. Our test subject John, meets Jane, played by Helena Matteson, in a hotel bar. She tries to give him the brush off- and then he explains, “I’ll give you my Lamborghini if you’ll let me tell you a story.” Original if nothing else, she allows him to sit, and he begins to tell her a story of clandestine agency and the program that implants the common man for its own pleasure and service.

Throughout the story, the film interweaves his story with the players. We meet the creepy former Senator Benson, played by Paul Savage, other assets, Ylan, played by Alan Tafoya, Bindi, played by Darlenis Duran, Han, played by Truong Ngoc Anh, and others.

The Hill Review – An Uplifting, Engaging, Inspirational, True Story

As John delves deeper into the project, he uncovers the shocking truth behind the program's objectives and the dark intentions of its creator. A former soldier, he is fueled by a thirst for justice, devotion to his country, and driven by a desire for vengeance, he embarks on a relentless mission to dismantle the program while navigating a dangerous web of betrayal, conspiracy, and high stakes action.

Dark Asset, an adrenaline-fueled action film, is surprisingly entertaining. The storyline is taken from the headlines and advances in the implant technology programs. The action is sharp, the plot delivers and the conclusion is worth the wait and fitting.

As governments become enamored with the advances in technology implants allow governments to infiltrate every terror organization in the world. The downside, of course, is there will always be someone somewhere who will, no matter the cost, find a way to rob, replicate and replace for personal use.

A fast action thriller, Dark Asset is in theaters, VOD and On Demand, September 22, 2023.
