LONDON TERROR ATTACK: SKY News Reports Suspect ID; Nineteen Injured in Early Morning Explosion

A crude, partially detonated, bomb exploded on the Parsons Green Tube Line in London, injuring nineteen people and causing mass panic and a stampede as terrified commuters rushed out the open doors to escape the fireball.

The detonation, which has been labeled a terrorist attack by London Anti-Terrorism Unit, stuck at 8:20am, just as the end of the Friday morning rush hour.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan told LBC radio “there is a manhunt under way as we speak.” There have been no arrests. [UK Metro]

As it is nearing mid-afternoon in London, additional details of the morning attack have been released. The device, a crude, homemade device, carried onto the District Line Train, which runs above ground, in a plastic bucket, closer to a five gallon drum used at construction sites, with wires sticking out from the bag.

While this is a fluid and ongoing investigation into a critical and extremely serious situation, protocols are in place for the extended area surrounding the tube Station. Immediately following the detonation schools in the area went into locked down, the entire area remains closed off, trains have been diverted, which could remain throughout the evening rush and possibly longer.

A Forensic Gold Mine

Chris Hunter, former UK Army Counter Terrorism Specialist, explained, during an on-air live stream interview on RT.com, several key elements to this failed attempt that will become part of the very fluid investigation.

“A partially detonated bomb is a forensic gold mine,” said Hunter. “The failure of the bomb to detonate as planned has created a gold mine of information for Counter-Terror Forensic analysis. They can find out what type of detonators are being used, what type of materials re being used to build the bomb itself and potentially determine where the explosives were purchased,” he added.

Hunter also explained for Londoners there are three streams of terror threats within country, of which nearly every nation faces at least two, from “the former IRA types; the mad, the bad and the sad or the criminals the cranks, the domestics and then Al Qaeda or ISIS, each have an online magazine and publish how to make these types of explosions.”

West London Faces Another Hit

The Friday morning explosion, the fifth terror related attack in 2017,  occurred in the area known as West London on the Wimbledon Line that originates at Earl’s Court just south of West Kensignton.

Commuters on board the train reported seeing a fireball that appeared to roll toward passengers which injuries primarily from burns to the head, neck, face and upper body area. The ensuing stampede, crushed passengers who had the presence of mind to immediately dive for the exits when the doors opened as the blast occurred when the train was nearing the station.

One women reported bodies falling on her and others falling in them as she quickly exited. Others reported seeing people running toward her panicked and without knowing why she turned and ran.

With terror incidents on the rise in the United Kingdom, a recent report indicated a 68% increase in terror related arrests in one year period June 12 2016 – June 12 2017, Londoners are more aware, more vigilant and more determined to live free and not in fear.

Catastrophe Prevented

London Ambulance services reported nineteen individuals were taken to area hospitals, with relatively minor injuries, for treatment. The threat of mass casualty is very real and the fact that the bomb only partially detonated spared Londoners a very different conclusion this morning.

For whatever the reason, poor  planning, old chemicals that degraded in strength, the potential for a much different conclusion was averted by the lack of full detonation.

This is a developing story.
