Hank Brennan, James “Whitey” Bulger Lawyer, Set to Argue Appeal

Hank Brennan, lawyer for James "Whitey" Bulger the mobster convicted of leading Boston's notorious Winter Hill Gang, is preparing to argue why the court should reverse its original verdict and allow the aging mobster a second chance.

Boston's First Circuit Court of Appeals, Monday, July 27, will hear from Brennan, who has maintained his client was denied a fair trial throughout the initial proceedings that ended with Bulger guilty on multiple charges and sentenced to two life terms in prison.

Bulger, has probably been the second most fascinating mobster next to the Teflon Don, John Gotti. On the run for more than 15 years, Bulger was notified the night before federal authorities arrived at his modest Boston home to arrest him for crimes committed under a deal with Special Agent John Connolly.

The Bulger Era ran parallel to the height of the Italian New York Crime Families and the hard charging federal prosecutors attempting to wrangle the mobsters into smaller manageable groups and ultimately dismantle the organized crime syndicates.

Bulger not only ran the Winter Hill Gang but as the organized crime syndicate grew in power, it had the power to corrupt. Soon those assigned to investigate Bulger and dismantle the crime family began their greatest assets and allies. Bulger flaunted his power and others wanted it.
