LA Arts: Exclusive VIP Collectors Gala with Master Artist Royo – Equus Renewed

ROYO will be showcasing his new series, created specifically for this called "Equus Renewed," which incorporates Equus (horses) and the female form. ROYO will be traveling in from his home in Spain for the event which is very rare.

This is a new series, a solo artist exhibit, something ROYO created specifically for this show.

Born in 1941 in Valencia, Spain, Royo began demonstrating his artistic talent early. At the age of nine his father, a prominent physician and avid art enthusiast, employed private tutors to instruct Royo in drawing, painting, and sculpture. At 14, he entered the San Carlos Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Valencia. Upon turning eighteen, Royo continued his artistic studies privately with Adolfo Ferrer Amblat, Chairman of Art Studies at the San Carlos Academy. He also visited the major museums in Europe at this time to study the famous masters-Velasquez, Goya, Renoir, Monet, and Sorolla among others.*

During the mid-60's-early 70's Royo added more dimensions to his skills creating theatre sets and doing graphic illustration and restoration work. He also participated in prestigious competitions gaining major distinctions. In 1968 he began to exhibit in Spain, specifically Lisbon, Madrid and Barcelona. With positive reception of his works in Madrid, Royo received commissions to paint the royal portraits of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. He received subsequent commissions to paint the judges of the High Magistrature and the Court of Justice, as well as prominent political and society figures.*

"I have always wanted to be an artist, or better said, I never had a choice. It was predetermined. My eyes, my brain and my hands translated everything into drawings, shapes and colors. It was a game of infinite dimensions which gave meaning to life. Painting is a privilege, you must earn."- Royo*

At the age of 25, Royo began feeling a growing desire to paint the land of his birth; to convey the light, the color and the intensity of Valencia and the Mediterranean. This meant a new focus and change of style in his work; he needed to perfect new ways to capture the light, the shadow and to work on classical composition styles. Through the 1980's Royo perfected his style of painting the Mediterranean and exhibited abroad, notably in London, Brussels, Copenhagen and Paris. He also participated in The International Geneva Art Fair.*

"I like to believe that my paintings reach distant places and people who have never seen Mediterranean light. It is a lovely idea that my paintings might allow them to experience the luminosity of this part of the world."-Royo*

The Winn Slavin Gallery is honored to host the works of Royo.

Sir Daniel K. Winn is an internationally recognized blue-chip artist, fine-art curator, awarded entrepreneur, and highly respected philanthropist.

In recognition of his direct support to humanitarian causes, having directly assisted in raising over two million dollars for non-profit aid in the United States and Asia, Winn was honored the prestigious title of "Sir" when knighted in 2018 under the Princely House of Shaumburg-Lippe-Nachod – one of only five recipients of the title in the history of the royal family. As a child refugee to the United States from Vietnam, Winn excelled in academics while at the same time supporting his younger sibling, allowing his parent to earn a living.

He went on to study medicine; but during his study of reconstructive surgery at UCI medical school, he broke from family expectations and set out to pursue a life in the world of art. He went on to work with numbers artists, elevating them to blue-chip museum caliber, in addition to developing his own artistic philosophy, "Existential Surrealism."
