Las Vegas: Urban Turban Hires Chef Tarun Kapoor and Debuts New Menu

The Urban Turban has announced international-award winning Master Chef Tarun Kapoor, an award winning ingredient, as new executive chef at the dine-in restaurant on East Paradise and Urban Turban EXPRESS at The LINQ.

Chef Kapoor has created a new menu, integrating traditional Bombay flavors and spices with modern Indian favorites, including a large variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. The result is simple yet innovative dishes that incite love at first bite.

Since Chef Kapoor's appointment, Urban Turban has been awarded top two "Best Ethnic" restaurant by Las Vegas Review-Journal's "Best of Las Vegas" 2016.

The extensive new menu elevates popular curried dishes and tandoori grilled dishes by preparing them using molecular gastronomy and other techniques. Must try specialties include baked to order garlic naan, lamb sheekh kebabs with mint yogurt, tandoori chicken, western coastal curry and for dessert, a chocolate samosa. Chef has also curated a secret menu that guests in the know can request.

Since graduating from India's prestigious Institute of Hotel Management Pusa, Chef Kapoor has spent the last 15 years mastering modern Indian culinary art, specializing in gastronomy style. He has held positions at five-star hotels, cruise lines and flight kitchens across the world.

World renowned, Chef Kapoor's won several culinary awards including MasterChef 2010 and Chef of the Year 2011 by the World Association of Chefs Societies - India, Senior Chef Qatar 2013, as well as recognition as an Accredited Culinary Judge by World Associations of Chef Societies before moving to Las Vegas to take the helm at Urban Turban.

Chef Kapoor shares his passion for Indian cuisine by teaching cooking classes and penning a widely read weekly column for the Gulf Times in Qatar.

"Although I have cooked many different types of cuisine, Indian will always have a special place in my heart as it's the food I grew up eating," said Chef Kapoor. "I'm proud to bring some of my favorite dishes and flavors to Las Vegas."

Owners Bhushan and Jasmine Arolkar opened Urban Turban in 2014, drawing inspiration from their hometown of Bombay to showcase a wide variety of cuisine styles from all regions of India.

Recently, they opened a second location Urban Turban Express at the LINQ and brought on Master Chef Tarun Kapoor to create a modern menu that still incorporates traditional flavors, spices and cooking methods, such as the tandoori grill. They choose Chef Kapoor to lend his world renowned skill set to the restaurant offering a home base of gourmet Indian food.

"We are delighted with the new menu Chef Tarun has presented," said Bhushan Arolkar. "Everything we love about Bombay cuisine is well represented and there is something for every palate."

The result is simple yet innovative dishes that incite love at first bite. The restaurant has been awarded "2016's Best Las Vegas Heart-Healthy Restaurants" by Gayot, "Best Vegetarian Dish" by Bite of Las Vegas and most recently top two "Best Ethnic Food" in the Las Vegas Review-Journal's "Best of Las Vegas" 2016.
