The Outpost Review - Emotional, Gripping Performances, Solid War Drama

Throughout the six episodes the audience is introduced to most of the wild animals many would expect to find in this biopic. Serengeti also adds unusual inclusions such as ostriches, wild dogs, hyenas, and wild boars.

From the beginning we are introduced to the laws of the jungle, tribes. and clans and how infractions, and threats are managed. As the lions are considered the king of the jungle, we meet a female lioness, who has had cubs with a male from outside her pride. She is forced into exile. We follow her throughout the six episodes.

Baboons are another aggressive animal when dealing with inter-clan rivalry. We become acutely aware of the qualities of a good leader and one who is only considered with his own survival. We find the Baboons feast on the delicacy of alligator eggs and figs.

Shot over a year, many cameras are planted at ground level capturing the fullness of the animal as they step closer. Drone footage also captures the vastness of the Serengeti National Park, the treacherous lands, the migration patterns, the ecosystem of life.

Throughout the series we come to understand the Great Migration, and the dangers that each face as they cross the rivers on this seasonal trek to feed on the lush growth. The dangers lurk in the dead eyes of the alligator who challenge each to attempt the crossing.
