NATAS Announces Winners of 45th Annual Sports Emmy® Awards

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the winners of the 45th Annual Sports Emmy® Awards.  The gala was hosted by The Kid Mero and presented live at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall.

The live in-person ceremony was sold out and filled with more than 1,200 attendees including a star-studded group of sports television personalities and distinguished guests. Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS, welcomed the audience followed by the evening's host, The Kid Mero.

Highlights of the award show included the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Honor to legendary sportscaster and three-time Emmy Award-winner, James Brown, by Sean McManus, former Chairman, CBS Sports. Notable presenters included Siera Santos (MLB Network), Mina Kimes (ESPN), Pedro Martinez (WBC Sports), Noah Eagle (NBC Sports), Tom Rinaldi (FOX Sports), Kaylee Hartung (Amazon), Mina Kimes (ESPN), Valeria Marin (Univision), Miguel Gurwitz (Telemundo Deportes), Kyle Brandt (NFL Network), Nate Burleson (CBS Sports / Nickelodeon), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies) and Tracy Wolfson (CBS Sports). 

The Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a student pursuing a career in sports television, was presented to Jimmy Doles, a student from Huntley, Illinois, who will be going to Northern Illinois University.  The Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship honors sportscaster Jim McKay (1921-2008) and was established in 2009. The scholarship is funded by HBO, CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN, and FOX networks.

Presented by Elle Duncan (ESPN), NATAS and The Coca-Cola Company, tonight's official sponsor of the Sports Emmy Awards for the third year, awarded the $40,000 HBCU Sports Production grant to Jonathan David, Germanie Bozeman, Tristian Hutton, Darnell Walker-Jones and Jalon Howard (Edward Thomas, Advisor), from Florida A&M University. Their winning submission was judged on a creative video and essay that addressed this year's competition theme, "The Past, Present or Future." 

Guests at the 45th Annual Sports Emmy Awards included Jason Kelce (Former Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN's Monday Night Football), Terri Carmichael Jackson, Executive Director, Women's National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA); NATAS Board of Directors including Bob Boden, Joan Cartan-Hansen, Jeremy Hubbard, Ronit Larone, Julie Lucas, Barbara Williams Perry, Amy Schmelzer, Jess Snyder, and NATAS Chairman, Terry O'Reilly. 


The Longines Masters of Los Angeles Rides into Long Beach

Winners were presented in 46 categories, including Outstanding Live Special and Live Series, four Documentary categories, Journalism, Public Service Content, and Esports Coverage, Outstanding Studio Host, Event Analyst, and Emerging On-Air Talent, among others. Accounting services for the competition are provided by the firm of Lutz & Carr, LLP.
