Vision Films Acquires “Rise,” the True Story of a Young Australian Nurse Falsely Accused Of Rape and Sentenced To Prison

Los Angeles based film distributor Vision Films announced today that they have acquired "Rise" - the emotionally-packed film based on the true story of Mack Lindon, a young man falsely accused of rape and sentenced to 19-months behind bars.

Lindon's personal experience fighting for the freedom he deserved became the inspiration to write, produce and direct "Rise."

At age 25, Mack Lindon's life was left in shambles after a one-night stand led to a rape charge. After his trial and subsequent sentencing to a maximum-security prison, he had to fight to survive, all the while striving to prove his innocence.

"Rise" stars 5-time Australian award-winner Martin Sacks (Blue Heelers, Love in Limbo), Marty Rhone (Happy Melancholy, The Masque of the Red Death) and Erin Connor (The Suicide Theory, Long Shadows), and introduces Nathan Williams, who portrays the real Mack Lindon in the film.

Mack Lindon says: "'Rise' is about encouraging people to carry on against all odds. It's about the injustice of a legal system that can find someone guilty of a crime, then years later find them not guilty, yet never compensate them for their mistake. I've turned something bad into a blessing with this film and hope it is something people will be inspired by. Making a great film with global distribution in mind can be done! From the get-go, Lise Romanoff and her team at Vision Films have shared their wealth of industry knowledge, walking us step by step through the process of bringing our story to audiences worldwide."

Managing Director / CEO of Vision Films, Lise Romanoff says: "The topic of sexual assault continues to dominate the national collective—even Vice President Biden addressed the it at the 88th Academy Awards Ceremony in February. Victims must be encouraged to speak out against their assailants, but it's imperative we not forget the other victims in this growing crisis--those who are falsely accused and whose lives are destroyed when the legal system fails."

"Rise" was shot in Queensland, Australia on RED EPIC for cinema release. Geoff McLeod is the cinematographer and the original score is by Jake R. Sanderson. Mack Lindon's production company is Vision Pictures Australia, which he started with his wife in 2010.

The production aims to take its place among other great entertaining and inspiring prison films, while encouraging discussion around the legal system and the gross injustice that Mack Lindon and others have faced across the world.
