Louder than Guns, from Abramorama, presents a thought-provoking and poignant conversation birthed from an all too commonplace school shooting tragedy, and took this idea of having a conversation around the polarizing gun debate to communities across America.

In the wake of yet another horrific mass shooting, this time at The Covenant School in Nashville, Ketch Secor, lead singer of the popular country-bluegrass band Old Crow Medicine Show, decided it was time to speak out on gun reform.

He felt compelled to write anop-ed in the New York Times entitled, "Country Music Can Lead America Out of Its Obsession with Guns." This may sound like the antitheses of the gun debate; country music can  end its obsession with guns? However, it caught the attention of Ketch's friend, public radio journalist David Greene, and the two set out to kickstart an open dialog about gun rights and gun violence in America.

Essentially, the Old Crow Medicine Show took their message on the road, and with each tour date stop, they gathered a group of citizens, from victims of gun violence in especially hard-hit Chicago and Highland Park, Illinois, to families of school shootings in Nashville, Tennessee. The miniature town halls bring together people from all races, religions, background and beliefs on guns, gun ownership, and how best to foster change.

Led by Ketch and David, these emotional and inspiring discussions, in barbeque joints, barbershops, church pews, gun stores, and concert halls, prove that localized, community-led discourse has the power to move the needle on gun reform in ways that today's polarized media and politicians rarely achieve.

They met with a man in a gun store, who explains simply, the AR-15, which has become a dreaded term in modern reporting, as we expect to hear a high body count, that the AR-15 has been around since the 1950s. It is not a new modern assault weapon, the gun has not changed, society has.

And how has society changed over the last fifty years? Psychologists Dr. Michael Stone and Dr Gary Bucato, who are not featured in the documentary, explain the shifts in society over the past fifty years have unleased essentially the genie in the bottle, the new evil, and with each act of society shifting violence, Parkland, Uvalde, Sandy Hook, Las Vegas, Nashville, society degenerates further, and the genie becomes stronger. And we, the citizen, become desensitized to violence.

So, what are the answers? Another man in the film explained though the question, "when was the best time to plant a tree?" And the answer, "100 years ago, and the next  best time?, is the follow up. And the answer, "Today, now." Now is the time to make these course corrections in society. How? One small step at a time. Small changes, small corrections, community wide, legislators on the state level, slowly and maybe, hopefully, before the next Uvalde, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Columbine, or Nashville, someone in the community will understand the behavior before the shooter is able to fire a single shot.

Louder than Guns, a thought provoking documentary that does more than spread a message, it exposes the pulse of the citizen as the filmmakers sit down with community members throughout the tour and talk about the issue of guns.
