Las Vegas Arts: Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit – Captivating, Magnificent, Impressive

The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit has been traveling the globe, playing to sellout crowds since it was first announced. Strong audiences, even in the pandemic, have continued to welcome this exquisite show, in every city it has played.

Over the Christmas holiday, I visited the Las Vegas installation of Immersive Van Gogh created and directed by Massimiliano Siccardi. By this time, I had seen images of the experience on Facebook from friends who had experienced the sensation in their city, so I had some idea, I thought, of what to expect.

This exhibition is a completely redesigned multimedia spectacle, with sets designed by David Kornis, who created sets for the musical Hamilton, presents the world-famous works of art by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890) in a way that has never been seen before.

Walking into the "show" space, the room is 500,000 cubic feet of projection area. Four sides of the periods of Van Gogh's work. It begins with bright yellow, one of his signature colors, which fades into days, times, seasons, and events of the master painter's work. Images of himself, of people, portraits, melt from one to another.

The immersive experience is just that, four sides, a full dive into work. Van Gogh' most famous works, "Wheatfield's in Cypress," "Starry Night," "Olive Grove," "The Potato Eaters," "Sunflowers," "Bedroom in Arles," his early work, the dark period and onto his many Self-Portraits come to life choreographed to various concertos and sonatas with a soundtrack by Luca Longobardi.

Once you have entered the experience, there is no time limit, which allows those who are so taken with the dazzling display they long to capture the moments of gorgeous beauty, to sit through a second showing and absorb the brilliance, the work, the mastery, the music. It is the work of a muse that feed the soul of the artist, the creator, the connoisseur.

The exhibit is playing in American cities, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Cincinnati, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and in European cities, Antwerp, Belgium,  Berlin, and in three cities across England, Leicester, York and London.

Las Vegas has two Van Gogh experiences each with its own distinctive offering. Massimiliano Siccardi created the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit at the Crystals Shops which is produced by Lighthouse Immersive.

"Massimiliano Siccardi really is the Steven Spielberg of the genre," said [Producer Corey] Ross. "He's been creating art installations in Europe for over 13 years." Siccardi, in collaboration with other artists, produced "Van Gogh, Starry Night" at Carrières de Lumières in France from March of 2019 to January 2020. He brought a similar van Gogh exhibit to Toronto, Canada, last year following his success in Europe before bringing it to the U.S. -- and eventually Las Vegas," KTNV reported.

The artist's paintings are being enlarged by elaborate light installations and projections that then come to life on the walls of the presentation rooms. Masterful art meets the most modern technology – a symbiosis that will carry Van Gogh's genius into a new age and make it unforgettable.

The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit is magnificent, dramatic, an explosion of colors and beauty. The display which has been traveling throughout the world has brought Van Gogh's work to a new generation, through representation of art that reaches past what many see as mundane museum walls and envelopes them in modernization leaving them wanting to learn and to know more.
