World News: Ukraine Launches Stunning Russian Border Attack

Ukraine, buoyed by Western weapons and permission from President Biden to use them in long-range operations, has launched a stunning multi-purpose Russian border attack in the city of Kursk, just 280 miles from Moscow, the Russian capital.

This attack, which is still raging, brought the 30-month war home to the streets of Moscow, diverted troops from the Ukraine front, and marked a shift in Ukraine's war strategy.

"The Biden administration said Thursday that the operation is an acceptable use of U.S. weapons to strike inside Russia, conforming with a May policy change that allows Ukrainian commanders to pursue targets there if Russian forces are preparing to launch attacks into Ukraine," The Washington Post reported.

Since February 2022 when Russian Forces invaded Ukraine, political analysts expected Putin's military to advance into neighboring Ukraine and retake the nation in a matter of days, weeks at minimum.

Under the leadership of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has petitioned the United States, the European Union, NATO, and the G7, to assist his efforts to keep Ukraine free and fight against the tyranny of Putin's maniacal thinking of reunification of the Soviet Union, which was once the largest nation in the world, the tide of the war has finally turned.

World News: Political Chaos and The Decent of the Political Process

Now, 30 months into the war, in which 500,000 soldiers from both Ukraine and Russia have been killed, severely wounded, or are missing in action, and more than 10,000 Ukraine civilians have been murdered, Putin continues to target the civilian population, including the elderly, women, children, and hospitals, and in direct violation of the Geneva Convention orders his troops to rape, murder and commit selective genocides in local villages, cities, and towns along the front lines, where the citizens have no means to fight.

For the first time in this two-and-a-half-year battle, Zelenskyy has been able to divert Russian forces from the front lines in the Kharkiv region essentially pivoting the focus to the Kursk region, which is less than five hours, by car, from Moscow home to nearly 13 million citizens.

Russian Forces had, at one time, controlled 11% of Ukraine, which is approximately 54,000 square miles and includes much of the Donetsk region. Since that time, Ukraine has retaken portions of the occupied territory regaining 5.5% or approximately 29,000 square miles, leaving Russian forces still in control of the remaining 25,000 square miles.

Battle of Kursk

The Battle of Kursk, which is inside the Russian border, has been raging for six days, and forced Russian troops to divert their forces to protect the city. Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine forces are now in control of approximately six square miles of Russian territory.

"President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine had launched an incursion into Russian territory to "restore justice" and pressure Moscow's forces, in his first acknowledgment of Kyiv's surprise offensive into the western Kursk region," Reuters reported.

Most military strategists believe that Ukraine has no plans to annex any parts of Russia but will continue to advance inside the border as leverage in possible cease-fire talks.
