Polar Vortex Set to Paralyze Nation

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

An historic polar vortex is set to blast a record breaking stint of frigid arctic air across much of the nation sending temperatures plummeting to paralyzing negative double digits and forcing the chilly air as far deep as the Gulf coast.

The deeply incapacitating cold will primarily effect the northeast and mid section of the country with temperatures plunging to nearly forty year record lows. This following winter storm Hercules which dumped up 23inches of snow in some parts of the country.

Caused by what meteorologists are describing as a perfect jet stream rotation with cold, dense air following a natural pattern, and forcing this chilly, glacial air deep into the nation and affecting temperatures as far south as the gulf coast.

Any outdoor activity should be limited and met with precaution.

Sunday’s NFL Playoff game at Lambeau Field with Green Bay hosting the San Francisco 49ers will see game temperatures tumble from minus 2 at kickoff to minus 7 by the fourth quarter with wind chills making it feel like 30 below.

The bitter freezing temps will stick around for a couple of days with Tuesday and Wednesday the most difficult. On the heels of the cold, old man winter will blast in another dose of precipitation with Winter Storm Ion expected to add another 14inches to the already high snow totals.

Check your local listings for any effected closures.
