After fourteen years as a leading art dealer in the Bay Area, Christina Maybaum will strike out on her own at the iconic contemporary arts hub, 49 Geary.

With a master's degree in art history, theory and criticism from the Art Institute of Chicago, she brings a scholarly context to her curatorial vision.

Over the years, Maybaum has worked closely with her clients to build highly personalized, informed collections to both complement and challenge their entry of engagement. As the Bay Area's culture continues to reinvent itself in innovation, the new gallerist found this to be an ideal time to create an inclusive environment that supports her deep ties with the tech community and the long-standing local arts scene.

Maybaum states: "The vision for my new space is to support the many access points that art so wonderfully offers. I hope that the programming shares my enthusiasm for dynamic investigations in art process, and to continually develop new and inspiring perspectives to engage with art."

The gallery space comprises 2,000 square feet of exhibition space for solo shows as well as additional viewing space for their growing roster of artists. In addition to rotating exhibitions, the gallery provides private art consulting services to meet clients' unique art needs.

About the artists:

Jeffrey Beauchamp b. New Jersey is Bay Area-based painter with a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute. Beauchamp is a contemporary fine artist and teacher using old-school materials like oils, pencil, pen & ink and charcoal to create powerfully sensitive, lush landscapes, figures and portraits.

Paul Bloch b. New York City, currently works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Bloch has been sculpting without a model since 1974, utilizing the volume of the material and maximizing the limits of the stone.

Heather Capen b. Wayzata, Minnesota is a Bay Area-based painter examining the built environment. Influenced by her education as a landscape architect, Capen contemplates the overlap of history, topography, cultures, and industry that occurs in an urban environment.

Monica Delgado b., Philippines 1979, works in acrylic paint with a sculptural approach. Delgado has exhibited her work in solo and group shows in Manila, Singapore, Istanbul, New York, New Jersey, San Francisco, and Houston.

Katina Huston b. San Francisco is a Bay Area-based artist looking at the interplay of light and its relationship to drawing and generating renderings of everyday objects.

Karl Klingbiel is a New York City-based abstract painter. Utilizing a distinct color palette and frenetic line and dynamic motion, the works challenge the two-dimensional picture plane and illuminate what paint can mean to a flat surface.
