Manhunt for Murder Suspect, Kidnapper James Lee DiMaggio Extends To Canadian Border

The manhunt for murder suspect James Lee DiMaggio has extended to the entire west coast and the Canadian and Mexican borders, as the child kidnapper has eluded police and capture for three days.

DiMaggio is the primary suspect in the abduction of Hannah Anderson, 16, whom he is rumored to be infatuated with, and her younger brother, Ethan Anderson, 8. The two were last seen in Lakeside, California, a suburb of San Diego on Tuesday August 6, 2013.

Police have reportedly linked DiMaggio to the murder of the children’s mother, Christina Anderson, whose charred remains were found in his burning home. A child was also found dead in the destroyed home and is believed to be the younger brother of the two missing children. Although authorities are not sure if the child found in the destroyed home are that of Ethan or an unknown child.

DiMaggio was apparently a long time friend of the family who relationship spanned two decades. He is described by all as a “friend of the family” even to the point of living with the grandmother of the children for some time.

There have been no clues as to why the sudden shift in his behavior or what triggered the dramatic events.

DiMaggio is rumored to be infatuated with the Hannah and has voiced those feelings through inappropriate comments which were reported by the girl to her friend.

He has known her since birth and attached himself as a surrogate and Police have stressed they are not looking at him as a sexual predator or child molester. At this time he is a suspect in children’s abduction and the murder of their mother and younger brother.

As reported in “CBS News” and Brett Anderson, the children's father, asked DiMaggio in a news conference Tuesday to let his daughter go.

DiMaggio's sister, Lora Robinson, told U-T San Diego that the allegations against her brother, were 'completely out of character." She said he spent four years in the navy, left the military service to care for her after their mother died of cancer and volunteered rescuing animals.

"He is the kindest person in the world,'" Robinson said.

And as reported on ABC's "Good Morning America" she believed her brother was also a victim of foul paly, along with the Andersons.

Police have issued a nationwide amber alert focusing primarily on the west coast with the belief that DiMaggio will try to flee the country at the Canadian border.  Reported his blue Nissan Versa has been spotted in Northern California as well as Oregon.

Police now believe he is carrying some type of explosive. He is considered armed and very dangerous. Any person who believes they have seen him or the two children should contact their local police department providing as many details as possible.

The children may not be aware of the gravity of their situation and may not exhibit fear or concern. As DiMaggio is consider like an uncle to the children and a vacation trip could be easily explained. They may not have witnessed the murders of the other family members.
