JONAKI Holds World Premiere at Rotterdam International Film Festival

JONAKI, from Magic Hour Films and Catherine Dussart and the second feature film from Aditya Vikram Sengupta, will hold its world premiere in the "Bright Future" Section of the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
Aditya Vikram Sengupta winner of the FEDEORA Award at Venice Film Festival 2014 for his first film Labour of Love and received the Best Director at the Marrakech Film Festival, the film also won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film at the 62nd National Film Awards.
Jonaki is a tale of an 80-year-old woman, searching for love in a strange world of decaying memories. Her lover, now old and grey, returns to a world she is leaving behind. She relives moments of her life in a decaying world of nostalgia with a strangeness that churns up feelings buried deep in her soul.

As she approaches the end of her life, her memories resurface in a dream-like manner in which the line between the real and the surreal is blurred. The echoing space of this fascinating meditative journey gently and carefully confronts us with a possible moment of transition between life and death.

Jonaki is the second feature film of Indian filmmaker Aditya Vikram Sengupta. Aditya's debut film Labour of Love created a tremendous buzz in the international film festival circuit.
It premiered at the Venice Film Festival 2014, Giornate Degli Autori, where it won the FEDEORA Award for best Debut Film. Labour Of Love has featured at over 70 international film festivals including Rotterdam, Busan, London, Tallinn, Munich, Marrakech, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi and IFFLA and has won 13 awards internationally. The film was also feted with 2 awards at the National Film Awards 2015 including the prestigious Golden Lotus for Best Debut Film.
