Royals Announce Engagement of HRH Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle

Ending months of media speculation the engagement of HRH Prince Harry, 33, and American actress Meghan Markle, 36, was announced by HRH The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwell via a press release from Clarence House.

The brief announcement also noted "the wedding will take place in Spring 2018 and further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty the Queen and other close member of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace."

Prince Harry, the son of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, is fifth in the Royal line of succession to the throne, after his father, HRH Prince Charles, brother William, and his ever growing family including Prince George of Cambridge, 4, and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, 2 and a third baby he and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, are expecting in April.

The couple agreed to a photocall, with the world media, and an interview following the Monday, November 27, 2017, morning announcement. Catching a glimpse of the engagement ring Prince Harry designed himself which contained diamonds from a broach from his mother's collection and the center stone he had sourced from Botswana, a location that is special to them.

While no official details on the classic three stone designed ring have been released the approximate total carats weight from the photos appears to be in the five to seven carat range with the two side stones totaling one carat each and the center stone, a cushion cut diamond, totaling four to five carats.  The three stones sit on a gold band and was made by Cleave and Company, Jewellers to her Majesty the Queen.  

Kensington Palace also released a statement on behalf of Mr. Thomas Markle and Ms. Doris Ragland, parents of Meghan Markle, who said, "We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry, Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, said via Twitter, "We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together."

In an official posting via the Royal Family Twitter (@royalfamily), Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, said they "are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness."
