Tainted Heroin Kills Seven in London Suburb; Eight U.S. Deaths Reported

Heroin, tainted with elephant tranquilizer, has hit the streets in the South Yorkshire, a densely-populated city nearly 150 miles from the London's metropolitan center, killing seven as the United Kingdom faces a rise in opioid usage and addiction.

The plague of Heroin usage consuming urban areas in American has seemingly jumped the pond and found a home in South Yorkshire, a city at the northern most tip of the British island, where in recent days' police have issues warnings to users as the bad batch has been the cause of at least seven deaths.

Overdoses, in South Yorkshire, with a population of 1.3million, have exponentially increased over the past weeks, especially in Burnley, a small rural borough with a diminishing population of 73K, have seen seven deaths in the past month.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Forber said: "Officers in South Yorkshire are working closely with investigative teams across the Yorkshire and Humber region to piece together the information we have gathered as part of our enquiries into this series of incidents," as reported in the Dailymail.com.

The substance was examined and found the mixture contained Carfentanyl and Fentanyl. Carfentanyl is used on tranquillizing large animals, quickly sedating elephants and dangerous wild predators.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, "Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid analgesic that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent with a rapid onset and short duration.

Wikipedia describes Carfentanyl also known as carfentanil, as "an analog of the synthetic opioid analgesic fentanyl. It is 10,000 times more potent than morphine making it among the most potent commercially used opioids."

During the last 24 hours, May 6, eight U.S. deaths have been attributed to the same tainted mixture. A Pasadena, California man overdosed, four deaths in Maryland and three deaths in New Hampshire have all been linked to the killer combination. Authorities have indicated a New Hampshire man has been arrested Saturday, May 6, for possessing the deadly carfentanyl.
