"Woods underwent a lengthy emergency surgery on his lower right leg and ankle at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, the statement said. The leg fractures were "comminuted," meaning the bone was broken into more than two parts, and "open," meaning the broken bone was exposed to open air, creating risk of an infection, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anish Mahajan said in the statement," CNN reported.

Los Angeles County Sherriff, Alex Villanueva, explained that Woods would not face any criminal charges, stating "This remains an accident. An accident is not a crime."

By all accounts, Woods left Terranea Resort, a five-star luxury resort in Rancho Palos Verdes early Tuesday morning and appeared agitated. TMZ reported Woods nearly had a collision with the director for the television show, "Grown-ish" as he was leaving the resort. He had been participating in a celebrity golf tournament.

Approximately fifteen minutes later as Woods was driving through the winding and steep hills on Hawthorne Boulevard in Rancho Palos Verdes, in Southern California, in his rented SUV Genesis he crossed the medium into two lanes of traffic, hit a curb, and unable to control SUV and the chain of events left the road, rolling down the embankment, nearly 200 foot from the roadway.

LA Sheriff deputies who arrived on the scene indicted Woods was coherent and did not appear impaired. The also indicated airbags and a seatbelt probably saved the golfing legend's life.

"His right leg was basically crushed," Daniel Rapaport, the Tiger Woods correspondent for Golf Digest, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday," CNN reported.

The seriousness of the injuries, essentially his right leg was crushed, mangled, broken with bone exposure to air which carries the possibility of infection, and all the future physical challenges necessary for a full recovery would be daunting for anyone, for a championship athlete with the mental conditioning and drive it is very possible Woods will have at least one more season of pro golf in his career.
