At Stanford Graduation - Plane, Bike Billboards on Campus Declare “Protect Survivors. Not Rapists. #PerskyMustGo”

On Sunday, June 12th, as Stanford University students attend graduation and commencement ceremonies, UltraViolet, a national women's advocacy organization, has commissioned three bicycle billboards to accompany student protesters as they march in solidarity with the survivor and against Judge Persky's decision.

In addition to the bike billboards, and ahead of commencement, a plane will fly over Stanford University with a banner reading "Protect Survivors. Not Rapists. #PerskyMustGo." A full page ad in The Stanford Daily's graduation issue will also invite students and alumni to take a stand against rape culture by signing a letter calling for Judge Aaron Persky to be removed from the bench over his sentencing of convicted rapist Brock Turner.

WHEN: A plane with the banner "Protect Survivors. Not Rapists. #PerskyMustGo" will fly over Stanford University Stadium from 7:45-9:45am ahead of the 10am commencement ceremonies.  Bicycle billboards will be outside the stadium and on campus from 7am to 1pm as well.

WHERE: Stanford University Stadium.

UltraViolet commissioned the bicycle billboards after being inspired by testimony from the survivor who praised two Stanford students on bikes who saw the rape and intervened to stop it.

In her statement to the court, she explained, "I sleep with two bicycles that I drew taped above my bed to remind myself there are heroes in this story. That we are looking out for one another. To have known all of these people, to have felt their protection and love, is something I will never forget."

"Stanford students are justifiably outraged over a so-called justice system that protects privileged white rapists over the survivors of their crimes - and nearly 900k UltraViolet members from California to Florida agree," said Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet. "With one in four women sexually assaulted while in college, we need judges that take rape seriously, and that's why Judge Persky should be removed from the bench."

More than 1 million people have signed onto a petition campaign from UltraViolet calling on the California Commission for Judicial Performance to remove Judge Persky from the bench. UltraViolet delivered those signatures to the California Commission on Judicial Performance in San Francisco on Friday.
