Idaho College Murders: No Suspects, No Weapon, No Motive

As the investigation into the University of Idaho quadruple homicide intensifies local, state, and federal officers have pieced together a timeline aided by digital and physical forensics and are not any closer to finding the killer.

"Police have no suspect, no weapon and no motive eight days after someone stabbed Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin to death inside their home near the school's campus in Moscow, Idaho," Foxnews.com reported.

Authorities have stated there appeared to be no forced entry into the six-bedroom property, located in a fairly populated area, near the University of Idaho campus. The inference drawn by this statement is that the murderer either had keys, entered by another means, or the door was inadvertently left unlocked when Mogen, 21, and Goncalves, 21, the last of the four murdered students returned at around 2:00am.

From pictures obtained by Zillow, other homes could be seen reasonably close to the property as the 23 listed images pictured the entire layout of the six bedroom, three bath, three story structure. Through the windows it was clear the house was bordered on three sides with other homes, with the back of the home bordering a wooded area.

The information released by the detectives indicated the four were repeatedly stabbed with a long knife, and there were defensive wounds on at least two of the victims, indicating they fought back. None of the victims were sexually assaulted. The physical forensics, at the scene have yet to be released, although police have said it was a chaotic scene and the killer or killers attacked the students while they slept.

"Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt also told NewsNation on Thursday that each victim suffered multiple stab wounds from a "pretty large knife." "It has to be somebody pretty angry in order to stab four people to death," Mabbutt told NewsNation. The victims were stabbed in the chest and upper body, the coroner said," KMVT.com reported.

If rage is the motive, than the suspect could be anyone, the functional psychopath, someone who viewed them with disgust that they were able to live their lifestyle choices, had a life in front of them, were dedicated to their pursuits, and were enjoying themselves or deeply and obviously disgruntled.

As the investigation continues, the public will find out more on these four students who had their entire lives in front of them. The police have also stated as long as the suspect or suspects are not arrested, a threat remains to the community although they are certain this was a "targeted attack."

So many unanswered questions: How did the killer or killers know the specifics of where each of the residence slept? How could they make their way around a darkened home without causing any major disturbance? Even the evidence points to some knowledge of the interior and denote a familiarity with the interior layout of the home and the specifics of where each of the residence slept.

The first of the funerals began yesterday as Ethan Chapin was laid to rest in Washington.
