Eight Children Found Stabbed to Death in Australia

In a grisly discovery a single surviving member of an Australian family arrived home to find eight members of his family dead, brutally butchered, and his mother, alive, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The gruesome scene began to unfold about 11:00am Friday, (+15hours), in the coastal city of Cairns, Queensland Australia, when the brother, 20,  returned home and entered in his house and walked into the carnage.

His siblings, ranging from 18months to 15 years old, were all dead.

Police arrived and by 11:20am the scope of the tragedy was unfolding.

"During an examination of the residence, police located the bodies of the children, all aged between 18 months and 15 years," the Queensland Police Service said in a statement.

The mother, described as a 34 year old woman, survived the attack with multiple stab wounds and was removed to a local hospital by ambulance.

Neighbors reported hearing loud noises coming from the residence about 10:00am and according to local news sources in Cairns, a person of interest has been identified and is currently being sought for questioning.

Described as male and possibly “on ice or whatever it is called,” the individual had been in the home previously and had cared for the younger children on at least one occasion according to The Cairns Post.

No formal identification has been made of the children other than identified as belonging to the surviving female. No bodies have left the residence.

Police have indicated there are no formal suspects.

The scene, which is among the most significant in the history of the Manoora Police Department, is causing mental distress among junior officers who are now being treated for shock and trauma.
