Gun fire erupted in the coastal community of Isla Vista, near UC Santa Barbara, in a drive-by shooting that left seven dead and another seven injured in what police are calling a premeditated attack by a disgruntled student.
Witnesses indicated the shooting began at 9:27pm Friday evening disrupting the quiet calm of the peaceful college town. Police were immediately on the scene exchanging gunfire with the driver of a black BMW.
According to police reports, the shooter identified only as a fellow student at UC Santa Barbara had created a video tape titled "Eliot Roger's Retribution" in which he held deep animosity against his fellow students.
Rejected by females, the alleged shooter's tape detailed his intent on killing "all the women at the sorority house" and then moving on to kill as many believing that would elevate him so all would see that he was "in truth the superior one, the true alpha male."
The crime scene spread out across nine different sites, created initial confusion as police were tending victims from the first shooting and heard shots fired in another location.
They returned fire on the black BMW, killing the lone occupant, who was determined to be the shooter.
Identities of the injured and deceased have not been released.
This is a developing story.
