Danielle Jones, Comatose Craigslist Beating Victim, Wakes

Danielle Jones, the Miami female beaten nearly to death and into a coma by a roommate she had found on Craigslist one week after he moved in, has finally woken 24 days after the Valentine's Day attack.

Jones, who turned 23 on the same day, had been in a coma since arriving at Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Miami Florida, February 14, 2016.

Byron Mitchell, who has since been arrested and charged with attempted murder, has attempted to manipulate the judicial process as prosecutors are indicating "he snapped" which lays the foundation for a not guilty by reason of mental defect.

Jones entered the hospital bludgeoned with severe head trauma, glass shards imbedded in her scalp, knocked out teeth, and facial injuries consistent with attempts to remove parts of her features.

Unable to breathe she was intubated and placed on a ventilator as the world heard the story of a fiercely independent beautiful young vibrant Miami catering assistant in need of a roommate and nearly killed.

With conflicting reports circulating locale Miami Dade authorities indicated she had rented out the entire unit, for two weeks, while she stayed with her Uncle and his family. On her birthday she had received a message from her mother, she had planned to go out and stopped by the apartment she had just rented for unknown reasons.

Mitchell and an old friend, along with Jones were drinking wine and finished the bottle. The friend left. When Jones began to leave, she was grabbed and the former personal trainer began to beat her. He had admitted to bashing her head into the floor "six or seven times." When he deemed she was sufficiently incapacitated, he showered presumably removing blood splatter and other DNA, while he decided his next move.

He called the police and waited for them to arrive. He indicated she pulled a knife on him and to disarm the petite Jones, beat her nearly to death. Her immediate prognosis was severe and permanent brain injury.

Although it is unclear the extent of her permanent injuries, after 24 days later she has woken from the coma, can respond to simple requests, has cognitive recognition and can perform simple tasks.

Her mother, Amiee Nikolov has called it a "medical miracle."

A GoFundMe account has been established to assist with her medical care and rehabilitation.
