President Trump spent the Independence Day holiday in South Dakota, campaigning without a face covering, presenting to the American people a mixed message that contradicts every medical advisor which indicates facial coverings slow the spread of the virus.

Campaigning in South Dakota

President Trump used the Independence Day holiday to return to his glory day campaigning of 2016, which included massive chanting crowds of faithful supporters who found a candidate the establishment loathed and finally one that the disenfranchised, marginalized and fringe could embrace.

Once labeled the "Fuck You" President, the masses of voters who are seeing their rights infringed upon and their history whitewashed, are once again embracing Donald Trump, as the candidate who will protect their rights in a society that has become divided into "us and them."

The evidence of the United States as a polarized nation is not recent. Elections over the last two decades have indicated the continued spike in popular vote verses electoral vote.

Former Vice President Al Gore, who ran for President in 2000, won the popular vote against George Bush, who won the electoral college vote. This same scenario was repeated in 2016 with Hillary Clinton won the popular vote only to lose to the electoral college.

President Trump needed to revitalize his base, if they can only have one rally during the campaign season, he needed his base to see him in his glory days, and hear him evangelizing the faithful with his messaging that plays to division, and pits him as a champion of the America way.

"One of their political weapons is "Cancel Culture" — driving people from their jobs, shaming dissenters, and demanding total submission from anyone who disagrees.  This is the very definition of totalitarianism, and it is completely alien to our culture and our values, and it has absolutely no place in the United States of America.  (Applause.)  This attack on our liberty, our magnificent liberty, must be stopped, and it will be stopped very quickly.  We will expose this dangerous movement, protect our nation's children, end this radical assault, and preserve our beloved American way of life," President Trump said during his speech at Mt. Rushmore.

His "Cancel Culture" message presents what many see as fact, a rising up of individuals who demand history, monuments, be removed through riots, lawlessness, in an "Act Up" style fashion which has become normalized over the past decade.

Police Accountability, which is wholly supported across every platform and every state is not at question, nor are the blights that are on the historical record.

Debate, dialogue, discourse, and communication are the keys to change. Shunning, blacklisting, persecuted and banishing are the tools of hate.

There is no doubt the many early American leaders of our nation participated in lifestyle's and voiced opinions that were common at the time and considered egregious and derogatory now. The progression of society is judged on how far it has come from the past; erasing it proves intolerance and an unwillingness to learn from its past mistakes.

Job growth Reflect Re-Openings, Fail to Incorporate Gig Economy or Self Employed

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, announced the June job numbers before the Independence Day Holiday, reflecting the month trend of business re-openings, which indicted employers called back 4.8 million workers who were laid off due to the pandemic.

The U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 11.1 percent, which appears to be a significant drop. What the numbers don't reveal the gig economy workers, nor the spike in coronavirus cases across the south which caused employers to reverse opening decisions.

Corona Closures

After a surge in coronavirus cases, many of the nation's governors, even those who had initially been resistant to implementing closures, have initiated measures which are geared to slow the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.

For many the Fourth of July weekend, summer's mid-point, is a celebration involving block parties, large back-yard barbecues, beaching, family gatherings and fireworks.

California

The Summer of 2020 saw many of California's pristine beaches closed, across Los Angeles County including Santa Monica's iconic Pier, Venice Beach and Malibu, beaches remained closed. Orange county.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced just before the holiday weekend "the return of some stricter restrictions and business closures ahead of Fourth of July weekend. Effective immediately, restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos, museums, and cardrooms have to shut down indoor operations. Those businesses can still operate outdoors," ABC News Reports.

Florida, under the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, has seen a sharp spike in coronavirus cases and as with most states with direct ocean access had to restrict beaches to stop the spread of the virus.

Mayor Carlos Giménez of Miami-Dade County said he would sign an emergency order closing beaches from July 3 to 7, citing the surge of cases and fears that mass gatherings over the Fourth of July holiday weekend could push the total even higher. The order will ban gatherings of more than 50 people, including parades, and will also close parks to public fireworks displays — which the mayor said "must be viewed from one's home or parked vehicle. The closure may be extended if conditions do not improve," Mr. Giménez said in a Friday news release, the New York Times reported.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has acknowledged that his reopening plan had gone awry. In an interview with KVIA-TV in El Paso on Friday evening, he said, "If I could go back and redo anything, it probably would have been to slow down the opening of bars."

Coronavirus Totals

The infection rates of the coronavirus have continued to rise around the world. With a weekly global increase of 1,289,100 confirmed cases, brings the total of confirmed cases worldwide to 11,320,100, with 530,900 deaths, an increase of 31,370.

Infections rates in the United States are also on the rise. New confirmed cases total 344,700, an increase of 73,900 over the previous week. For the week ending July 5, 2020 the total confirmed cases rose to 2,895,800 with 129,800 total deaths, a weekly increase for 4,076 deaths. (Data from The New York Times).

Broadcasting Legend Hugh Downs Dies

Hugh Downs, a legend in the media world, died this week at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, from heart failure. He was 99.

Born in 1921 in Akron, Ohio, Downs knew early he would pursue a career in broadcasting, working for local radio stations, and moving to larger markets to continue his career. He enlisted in World War II in 1942. Returning to Chicago in 1945, Downs worked in an experimental media called television.

According to Wikipedia, "Downs later recalled that when he went for his first job, he had never seen a television before, and he was unsure whether television would last."

Moving to New York in 1954, he began his announcing career, which lasted through two decades across many television shows, as the new medium that he questioned whether it would last, began to explode.

It was 1962 that he moved in front of the camera and began co-hosting duties, across multiple networks including "Today" for NBC, and the ABC News staple "20/20" which he co-hosted with another broadcasting icon, Barbara Walters until his retirement in 1999.

He is survived by his two children and predeceased by his wife of 73 years Ruth Shaheen.

Election: Trump, Biden Trade Jabs, VP Choice Heats Up

In any normal election year, the Fourth of July Holiday would signal the beginning of high volume rallies, packed houses of supporters, shaking hands at country fairs, kissing babies, selfies and soundbites on the evening news, as each of the candidates pitch their plan to the American people.

The coronavirus has dramatically changed Presidential stumping, as both Biden and Trump tackle the issue of protecting themselves and the American people from the coronavirus and infusing the people with the message of change that will result in votes on November 3, 2020.

Ignoring the warnings of every medical expert, President Trump hosted a large Independence Day Rally at the base of Mt. Rushmore, in South Dakota, proclaiming freedom and reminding those who gathered of the truths that we hold to be self-evident that all men are created equal.

The Future of the Workforce: Skills that Match 21st Century Demand

"And yet, as we meet here tonight, there is a growing danger that threatens every blessing our ancestors fought so hard for, struggled, they bled to secure. Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children."

Democratic Presidential candidate Biden blasted the president for his use of racial tactics to widen the divide that already exists in our nation.

"American history isn't a fairytale. The battle for the soul of this nation has been a constant push-and-pull for more than 240 years. But it's a battle we can and will win — together," Biden, said via twitter @JeoBiden.

As the campaigns continue to build the true test will be which candidate is able to effectively use social media and messaging platform to energize the voters and for Biden the choice of a Vice President will make or beak his campaign stride.

Public speculation has Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Duckworth, and Susan Rice as the front runners.

Senator Kamala Harris

Harris and Warren were each part of the original twenty-two Democratic Candidates to announce their bid for the Democratic Nomination. Each made their own indelible mark during the debates. The early end for Harris could come into play as well as her attack on Biden as she presented herself as deeply psychologically and emotionally damaged over forced busing. Moreover, her inability to meet the benchmarks set by the DNC could ultimately be the deciding factor.

Senator Elizabeth Warren

Warren's only block to being the VP candidate is race. As a white female, this choice will scream "white privilege." Although considered relatable the chances of Elizabeth Warren's race alienating the voters is slim. Coupled with her ability to remain in the top four potential candidates and meeting the thresholds set by the DNC sets her apart.

Senator Tammy Duckworth

Senator Tammy Duckworth, who many voters may not know, is a decorated Iraq War combat veteran, a Purple Heart Recipient, double amputee, wounded while piloting her Blackhawk helicopter. Duckworth ticks all the boxes of a solid candidate.

She meets the race hurdle as an Asian-American, she can deliver the Asian vote, across a nation, not simply a state which as we know is necessary to win the electoral college. As a double amputee, she can reach others, many challenged Americans who feel disenfranchised without representation.

From Illinois she can capture the mid-west. She has first-hand knowledge of the Veterans Administration which clearly needs an overhaul, she understands accessibility laws. She has lived first-hand major medical injury and not only the traumatic aftermath but the financial affects and understands the debilitating, crushing, pressure these types of injuries carry. She has Department of Defense experience; she can meet daunting challenges head on and conquer. She is loyal, courageous, and brave. And she is a mother of two.

Susan Rice

Susan Rice has also risen in the ranks as a possible Vice-Presidential candidate. Her tenure with President Obama as the former National Security Advisor puts her the closest possible candidate to the Obama Administration, which many will see as a winning combination.

Whomever Biden chooses the heat is definitely on to find the candidate that can enhance the ticket and bring a sense of unity across multiple divides.
