Obama Accepts Nomination; Romney Begins Media Blitz- The Road to the White House - Election 2012 - Week 36

President Barack Obama addressing the American public during the Democratic National Convention accepted, to deafening applause, his second nomination for President of the United States.

Battling the storms that thundered across North Carolina Team Obama canceled the planned outdoor acceptance speech leaving the final moments of the convention without the usual patriotic rain of red, white and blue balloons.

President Obama’s current overall ratings received a large bounce from the Democratic National Convention and for the first time in thirty-six weeks of tracking edged above the fifty percent approval mark, according to Gallup, gaining seven percentages points over the past week to 52% of those polled who approve of his effectiveness as President and those who disapprove of his effectiveness dropped four percentage point to 42%.

As of September 8, 2012, among registered voters President Obama’s national popularity gained four percentage points to 49% and Mitt Romney’s national popularity dropped a single percentage point to 45%.

Obama, interrupted repeatedly by the chant of “four more years,” spoke eloquently and passionately, about the problems America is facing. As he asked Americans to choose his vision, his words and beliefs were clear ”Know this America,” he stated, “our problems can be solved, our challenges can be meant the path we offer may be harder but it leads to a better place.”

While Obama delivered one of the most important speeches of his life, it felt more like a State of The Union Address with no real plan presented to counter the clear problems facing a large percentage of the American population including economic stimulus and continued high unemployment.

Highlights of the Convention, held at Time Warner Cable Arena, included speeches by First Lady Michele Obama who stole the show, former President Bill Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden and of course, President Barack Obama, along with a host of present and former Democratic elected officials and supporters, including actress Eva Longoria, Scarlett Johansson and Grammy award winner James Taylor who performed a medley of his greatest hits.

August Job Numbers Dampen Carolina High

The August Job numbers were released this past week squashing the Democratic celebratory atmosphere. With only 96,000 thousand jobs added in August the unadjusted unemployment figures dropped a mere 2% to 8.1% stubbornly staying above 8% for the 43rd straight month.

Romney/Ryan Hit the Campaign Trail

With less than sixty days to the general election, and the Obama serge among registered voters, Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney is moving ahead with blitz ad campaigns in key battleground states.

As Romney is now the GOP Presidential candidate additional monies become available to his campaign through federal funding. The Romney camp recently released advertisement figures totaling close to 4.5million dollars for media buys that will air across eight states including traditional swing states Ohio and Florida.

With both conventions over, the next major televised opportunity for the American public to judge the effectiveness of both men and their VP choices will be a series of three debates beginning October 3rd in Denver. The second debate, a town hall, is scheduled for October 16 and the final debate, on foreign policy, is slated for October 22. Republican running mate Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden have one debate scheduled for October 11.
