Election 2016: Hillary Clinton Wins First Endorsement

Hillary Rodham Clinton has received her first endorsement from a member of President Barack Obama Cabinet with former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack citing her leadership and loyalty among the many reasons behind his endorsement.

The choice of courting a former Iowa governor is a clear indicator of the Clinton strategy. With five months before the primaries official start and first up for both parties are the Iowa Caucuses, seen as a must win, for the Mrs. Clinton as the field, democratically is extremely narrow, as she is the presumptive candidate, unless Vice President Joseph Biden enters the race. Winning Iowa becomes crucial at that point.

"Hillary Clinton is not new to the fight for middle class families," Vilsack wrote in an editorial set to run Wednesday in the Cedar Rapids Gazette. "Throughout her public life she has consistently fought to expand and strengthen the middle class. I have no doubt she will continue that fight as president."

"Hillary Clinton has the right policies to strengthen and expand the middle class, is battle tested, and has the experience and relationships to lead and govern well," Vilsack wrote. "For all of those reasons, as well as our friendship, I will caucus for Hillary Clinton on February 1, 2016." - As reported in The Des Moines Register.
