Marc Friedland Couture Communications Hosts The Envelope Please Preview

Marc Friedland, creative director of Marc Friedland Couture Communications and the official designer of the famous OSCAR winner's envelope, recently hosted an exclusive preview event at his Venice Boulevard studio.

Friedland, who has once again been selected to design the envelopes, name cards and announcement awards bearing the names of Oscar® winners and nominees for the 86th Academy Awards®, hosted the OSCAR week event.

"The Envelope Please," was an exclusive presentation for friends, guests and media who were given a tour of the Couture Communications studio, provided the opportunity to view the making of the envelopes, mingle and be photographed with the most famous envelopes.

"The Envelope Please," provided a personal opportunity to see the making of the envelope every talent dreams of receiving.  The process of creating these iconic envelopes and cards is fascinating.

The envelopes over the years, have continually been redesigned to reflect the continual growth and changes of the Academy of Motion pictures Arts & Sciences. The current envelopes reflect both richness of tradition, art deco styling; an homage to old Hollywood with a hint of the Golden Era of filmmaking.

Friedland's custom-designed envelope is handcrafted from a high gloss, iridescent metallic paper, treated in "Oscar" gold, complemented by a red-lacquered lining featuring the Oscar statuette hand-stamped in satin gold leaf. A faint statuette watermarked pattern gives the exterior envelope its distinctive finish and provides for added security against duplication.

The exterior of the envelope and its flap features an Art Deco-inspired satin gold foil-treated frame with an ecru inset panel bearing the name of the award category, in a richly appointed charcoal ink. The envelope will contain a heavyweight ecru card with iridescent gold accents and gold leaf-embossed Oscar statuette, along with the phrase, "And the Oscar Goes to…"

For a cohesive and elegant look, the names of the winners will be printed in the same charcoal ink and mounted onto a matching, red lacquer hand-wrapped frame, while the back of the card will be printed with the award category.

For this year's nominees, Friedland produced an announcement card for each. Once the final tabulation of the ballots has been completed, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) partners Brad Oltmanns and Rick Rosas will personally insert the appropriate announcement card, fastening the envelope with a red double faced satin ribbon and red-lacquered and gold embossed seal featuring the PwC logo. The remaining nominee cards will be destroyed.

Guests at "The Envelope Please"  were treated to a tasty and luscious selection of light bites including tuna tartar in tort shells sprinkled with American salmon caviar, shrimp bits on spoons with crème fraîche, mini roast beef sliders, lobster rolls, and many other early afternoon hors d'oeuvres including an assortment of cheeses, crackers, exotic fruit and cold cuts along with a tiered, mouth-watering, variety of dessert choices such as  macaroons, pot de crème in tort shells, cupcakes, cookies and chocolates.
