As the countdown to the Academy Awards announcement on January 23, 2024, approaches the recent Golden Globe Award and Critics Choice Award nominations reveals the entertainment media has clear ideas for the winner's circle of 2023.
Pink, pink, and every shade of pink may be on demand come Oscar time, as Barbie, the global phenomenon from Greta Gerwig, not only became the highest grossing film of 2023, but it also earned the hearts (in a sometimes heartless profession) and nominations of the media.

"Greta Gerwig's billion-dollar sensation leads the Critics Choice Awards nominations for film with a record-breaking 18, the most of any film in the organization's 29 years, surpassing "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "The Shape of Water" which landed 14 during their respective years. Among its mentions were for best picture, director, actress (Margot Robbie), supporting actor (Ryan Gosling (supporting actor), supporting actress (America Ferrera (supporting actress) and three for original song," Variety reported.
Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, received 13 Critics Choice Nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey, Jr., and Best Supporting Actress Emily Blunt, Killers of the Flower Moon, the Martin Scorsese masterpiece, received 12 Critics Choice nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, Best Actress for Lily Gladstone, and Best Supporting Actor, Robert De Niro. The two films are nearly identical in category nomination and are expected to perform as well during the Academy Award nominations.
Poor Things, the Yorgos Lanthimos Comedy/Horror Film, also received 13 nominations, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Emma Stone, and Best Supporting Actor Mark Ruffalo.
New York Film Critics Circle Announce 2023 Winners "Killers of the Flower Moon" Named Best Film
Maestro, directed and starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan, received eight nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress: American Fiction, the TIFF Audience Winner, starring Jeffrey Wright five nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor for Sterling K. Brown, and Best Comedy.
For the Golden Globes nominations, which is comprised of Foreign Press, "Barbie and Succession each took nine noms in the film and TV categories, respectively. On the film side, Oppenheimer came in next, with eight nods, followed by Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things with seven each. Netflix led all film distributors with 13 total noms, followed by Warner Bros. Pictures with 12," reported The Hollywood Reporter.

SAG Lifetime Achievement Recipient
The legendary actor, singer, producer, writer, and director Barbra Streisand has been named the 59th recipient of SAG-AFTRA's highest tribute: the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments. Matthew Perry Cause of Death Revealed
Friend's star Matthew Perry, who had been very vocal especially in the year before his death over his addictions, died from elevated levels of Ketamine, coupled with coronary artery disease, brought on by years of drug abuse, and drowning.
"But the autopsy ascribed his death primarily to "the acute effects of ketamine." Ketamine is a powerful anesthetic that has become increasingly popular as an alternative therapy for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and other hard-to-treat mental health problems. It is also used recreationally," The New York Times reported.
Perry, whose death now came as a shock as he, had become an adamant supporter of clean and sober lifestyle, and took every opportunity to reveal the hard truths and facts of his two lives. The much loved, awkward, and funny Chandler Bing, which endeared him to millions and a generation, and his hidden dark life that few understood or knew about.
Celebrity addiction is big business, and the last thing any of these help organizations want is for the addict to adapt and incorporate the strategies and by the grace of God, become clean. It dries up the money.
Perry was able to become a clean version of himself and for those who loved Chandler and maybe remember at time when this group resonated with that stage in life, do this one last thing, in solidarity, clean up, drop the drugs, drop the booze, find a program, stick with it, live the sober life.

AC/DC Drummer Dead
The rock group AC/DC announced the death of drummer Colin Burgess, 77, on their official Instagram account, "Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician," the band posted. "Happy memories, rock in peace Colin." No further information is available. This is a developing story.
Emmanuelle Debever Commit Suicide
The French actress, who was relatively unknown in the United States committed suicide this week, after a television documentary in France aired, in which she was featured her accusations of rape and sexual assault against the French actor Gerard Depardieu.
"Her allegations against Depardieu are not new. In a Facebook post in 2019, Debever said her co-star tried to grope her as they rode in a carriage on set. "This monster allowed himself to enjoy plenty during filming, making the most of the intimacy inside a carriage," she wrote. "Sliding his fat paw under my skirt to, in his words, 'make me feel better'…I didn't allow it to happen,"' reported The Hollywood Reporter.
Depardieu has been accused by many other women, as the television program Complément d'Enquête aired snippets of another actress Helene Darras who initiated an official investigation.
Suicide is not uncommon in victims of rape and sexual assault. In the United States more than 5000 victim each year in each state commit suicide with a traceable sexual assault in their life. More needs to be done to protect victims and punish perpetrators instead of sentencing the victims to a life of harassment, continued torture and torment while coddling the criminal.
