NEON Nabs "MEMORIA," The Colombian Set Drama, From Palme D’Or Winner Apichatpong Weerasethakul

In one of the first deals announced out of AFM, NEON has landed North American rights to Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s MEMORIA. The Colombian set drama, written and directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, stars Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton.

MEMORIA also stars Jeanne Balibar, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Juan Pablo Urrego and Elkin Diaz.  The film is produced by Weerasethakul’s Kick the Machine, Burning and Illuminations Films. Weerasethakul previously won the Cannes Palme d’Or in 2010 for his fantastical film, UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES.  

Details of the plot are being kept under wraps.

The deal was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman on behalf of NEON and Thania Dimitrakopoulou of The Match Factory on behalf of the filmmakers. 

At last year’s AFM NEON announced the acquisition of Bong Joon Ho’s Palme d’Or winner, PARASITE, which has gone on to gross over $100mm worldwide and set box office records in the US after launching on October 11th.
