Austin Film Society To Honor Brooklyn Decker With Rising Star Award at 2019 Texas Film Awards

The Austin Film Society (AFS) announced they will honor actress and entrepreneur Brooklyn Decker with the Rising Star Award at the 2019 Texas Film Awards ceremony in AFS Cinema’s Event Hall on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
The annual event will take place at the AFS Cinema, with a red carpet followed by an intimate reception, dinner, and awards ceremony in AFS Cinema’s Event Hall.
Decker started her acting career with a supporting role in the Adam Sandler comedy, JUST GO WITH IT, also starring Jennifer Aniston. Her acting work has ranged from big-budget blockbusters like Peter Berg’s BATTLESHIP and ensemble rom-com WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING to critically acclaimed television and independent films.

Her recent work includes the SAG and Golden Globe Award-nominated Netflix series, Grace & Frankie, in which she co-stars alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen, and Sam Waterston.
Decker has appeared on numerous hit television shows including The League, Ugly Betty and New Girl, and her recent film work includes fellow Austinite and AFS-supported filmmaker Andrew Bujalski’s SUPPORT THE GIRLS, a 2018 critically-acclaimed independent film.
Since moving to Austin with her husband Andy Roddick in 2009, Decker has been an active participant in the community through her work in entertainment, business, and philanthropy. She co-founded the fashion platform Finery, an operating system for your wardrobe, with Whitney Casey in early 2017. Her charity work extends to organizations including the Special Olympics, Sierra Club, and the Andy Roddick Foundation.

The Texas Film Awards raises funds for the Austin Film Society’s year-round artistic and educational programs. AFS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by filmmaker Richard Linklater with the mission to make Austin synonymous with great film.

About Brooklyn Decker
From magazine covers to the big screen, Brooklyn Decker is a rare success story in the precarious transition from being one of the biggest names in modeling to emerging as a rising Hollywood actress. Decker’s film and television career began in 2011 when she starred in her feature film, playing a young teacher romanced by a plastic surgeon (Adam Sandler). In the comedy JUST GO WITH IT for Columbia Pictures, Sandler enlists his assistant (Jennifer Aniston) to pretend to be his ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie.
In 2012 Decker starred in Peter Berg’s BATTLESHIP for Universal Pictures, opposite Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Liam Neeson, and Rihanna. The young actress also released WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING the same weekfor Lionsgate. Directed by Kirk Jones, Decker played “Skyler” in one of the film’s interlocking stories alongside Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, and Anna Kendrick. LOVESONG, directed by So Yong Kim, premiered at Sundance and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. In 2018, Decker starred in the film SUPPORT THE GIRLS directed and written by Austin-based filmmaker Andrew Bujalski.

Decker co-stars alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen, and Sam Waterston in the Netflix “dramedy” Grace and Frankie, entering its fifth season. She has guest starred on numerous television shows including FOX’s New Girl, NBC’s Chuck, ABC’s Ugly Betty, USA Network hit Royal Pains, and three episodes of FX’s comedy series The League. In 2013, the actress starred in CBS’s ensemble cast comedy Friends With Better Lives.
In early 2017, Decker launched Finery, a web platform that acts as the “operating system for your wardrobe,” serving as Design Director alongside founder Whitney Casey. Decker’s interest in design, fashion, and technology has also led her to work with a number of globally recognized clothing, home, and digital brands throughout her career.
Decker got her start after being prodded by friends into modeling in her hometown of Charlotte at the age of 16. Two years later, she moved to New York City where she quickly rose to stardom within the industry, gracing the pages of magazines including Vogue, Elle, GQ, Glamour, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, PoP Magazine, and Teen Vogue.
Decker’s big break came in 2006 when she first appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In her fifth year, Decker cemented her place in pop culture history by appearing on the cover of the magazine and was consequently named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive.
Inspired by her love of sports and her aunt’s personal struggles from being born without a corpus callosum in her brain, Decker became active in the Special Olympics in her hometown of Charlotte in 2004 and is now a global ambassador for the organization. She also supports the Sierra Club and various veterans organizations.
In April 2009 in Austin, Texas, Decker married Andy Roddick in a private ceremony. They have two children together. The family currently resides between Austin, North Carolina, and Los Angeles with their English bulldogs, Billie Jean and Bob Costas.
