Updated:William, Kate Welcome Baby Number Two, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana; Obama Congratulates Family, Queen, Nation

Prince William and Catherine, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, welcomed baby number two, a girl, into their growing family, on Saturday, May 2, following a week delay and short two hour labor.

Kensington Palace has announced the newest member of the royal family has been named, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana with an official title of Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Her name offers tribute to both sides of her parents family.

The Duke and Duchess have chosen to honor William's mother, the late Princess Diana, his grandmother Queen Elizabeth and Katherine's sister, Pippa Charlotte Middleton.

President Obama issued the following statement congratulating the Royal couple. "Michelle and I are delighted to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family, and all the people of the United Kingdom on the birth of the Royal Princess.  On behalf of the American people,we wish the Duke and Duchess and their son George much joy and happiness on the occasion of the arrival of the newest member of their family."

Kate was driven to the hospital at 6:00am (London Time), by William who was present during the birth at 8:34am. Weighing 8lb. 3oz, the baby girl was presented with her proud parents in the early afternoon.

Prince George also made a special appearance when Prince William brought the crowd pleasing chubby cheeked heir to the throne to the hospital to meet his sister.

Members of the international media waited outside the famous Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital throughout the week mingling with well-wishers who kept up the baby watch as Newspapers announced the Princess was officially overdue. Kate and William remained thoughtful sending over coffee and Danish to those who waiting outside the hospital.

The Royal couple, looking comfortable and happy, posed for pictures before heading home less than twelve hours after giving birth.
