GKIDS and Beijing International Film Festival Presents "ANIMATION IS FILM BEIJING"

GKIDS and Beijing Film Panorama have partnered to present ANIMATION IS FILM BEIJING, a special animation section within the upcoming Beijing Int’l Film Festival (BJIFF), featuring the largest slate of international animated feature film shown in China.

The ANIMATION IS FILM BEIJING lineup, which runs April 13-20, 2019, will be the largest slate of non-Chinese feature film animation ever to be presented in China and will highlight the work the of critically-acclaimed, groundbreaking animation artists from around the world.

2019 Tribeca Film Festival® Announces Feature Film Lineup For 18th Edition

The program is modelled on GKIDS’ LA based festival ANIMATION IS FILM, and features most of the films appearing in the AIF 2018 lineup. In its ninth year, BJIFF is among the largest film festivals in the world and a cultural phenomenon in Beijing, with 230,000 tickets sold for the most recent edition.

ANIMATION IS FILM BEIJING presents 15 feature films from Asia, Europe, North America, and South America, with all new titles making their Asian or Chinese premieres at the festival. Festival highlights include Oscar®-nominated and Golden Globe®-nominated Mirai, European Film Award®-winner Another Day of Life, the hit anime Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and ANIMATION IS FILM jury prize winner Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles.

The slate also showcases the complete feature film retrospective of Oscar®-nominated Japanese director Mamoru Hosoda as well as a 20th anniversary presentation of The Iron Giant, the influential first feature from legendary two-time Oscar®-winning director Brad Bird.

GKIDS also produces the annual LA-based film festival, ANIMATION IS FILM, which embraces the highest aspirations of animation as a cinematic art form. 



Established in 2011, the Beijing International Film Festival is among the world’s largest film festivals. Presented by the China Film Administration, BJIFF 2019 takes place April 13-20 in Beijing and is jointly sponsored by the Beijing Municipality and China Media Group. BJIFF 2019 will present 300 special events, with festival highlights including the Opening Ceremony, Beijing Film Panorama (the main film section of the festival), Beijing Film Market, Beijing Film Carnival, Forward Future Section, and the Closing and Awards Ceremony.

A major section of BJIFF, Beijing Film Panorama is organized by the China Film Archive. Beijing Film Panorama showcases over 500 films from all over the world and screens in over 30 theaters throughout Beijing.

It has become a cultural phenomenon, with 230,000 paid attendance for the 2018 edition. In addition to being a premier showcase for Chinese cinema, Beijing Film Panorama attendees have included Alfonso Cuarón, James Cameron, Kathleen Kennedy, Natalie Portman, Luc Besson, Oliver Stone, and Chloe Moretz, while Panorama retrospective programs have included David Lynch, Wong Kar-wai, Agnes Varda, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, and Pedro Almodovar. www.bjiff.com/enHome/
