OJ Simpson Granted Parole in Nevada

Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson, the former football great, has been granted parole in Nevada where he has served nine years of a thirty-three year sentence for armed robbery and kidnapping in conjunction with theft of sports memorabilia in Las Vegas.

The Nevada incarceration stemmed from an September 2007 burglary at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino, in which Simpson and several other men entered the Hotel with the intent of retrieving property that the former Hall of Famer indicated were stolen from him.

The items were in one of the rooms in the Hotel which the men entered at gunpoint and took the items which included photos of his children, game footballs and about 800 other items. While some of the items, without question, had an origination point that tied them to the Simpson Family, others had no connection to Simpson, his family or any person close to him.

Throughout questioning and trial Simpson asserted the items belonged to him and his family and "not some guy in a hotel room in Vegas." While that may be true, possession is a significant portion of the law and Simpson's retrieval methods were clearly illegal.

The items, which then held a larger monetary value, may have initially been sold under Simpson's authority, or an agent, and with impending civil judgements of more than $33million stemming from the 1997 civil judgments in which Simpson was fund liable in the wrongful death murders of Ronald Goldman and Nicole Brown and outstanding federal judgments reselling the property would have been significant to shuffle into untraceable accounts for personal use.

Within weeks of the October 2007 robbery Simpson was questioned, detained and arrested. By October 2007 all three of his co-defendants accepted plea deals. Simpson's lawyers continued to maneuver and wrangle the legal system, using similar tactics that had been successful in his murder trial.

One year later in October 3, 2008, thirteen years to the date he was acquitted in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Simpson's was found guilty on all ten charges.. On December 5, 2008 he was sentenced to 33 years in prison.

Simpson, who transitioned from Heisman trophy winner to sports broadcaster, made an impassioned plea to the Nevada Parole Board, which consisted of two men and two women, indicating he has served his time and tried to live a conflict free life insisting  "I'm not a guy that has conflicts in the street, I don't expect to have any when I leave here."

The four Nevada Parole board commissioners ended this stage of the one of the most decorated sport figures in history with an unanimous decision to grant parole when eligible.

Nicknamed "The Juice," Simson is no stranger to the courtroom. He was most widely known, since the mid 1990's as the man who allegedly got away with murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman who were both found severely beaten and butchered at her home on Bundy drive in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles sparking on the most famous and shocking miscarriages in American justice.

Simspon is set to be released October 2017 and his petition to relocate to Miami, Florida, has been approved. Florida remains one of the few states where a person's personal residence can not be seized to satify financial judgements.
