Circus Performers Critically Injured in Trapeze Accident

A female troupe of nine Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey acrobats were critically injured during a morning matinee, when the trapeze in which they were suspended gave way, without warning, sending all crashing to the center ring.

Performing at the Dunkin Donut Center in Provincetown, Rhode Island, the aerial artists were suspended by their hair, in an act representing a human chandelier which lowered the women, from the ceiling, to approximately 30 feet above the floor. Seven of the performers were hanging on the parameter while one female was hanging in the center.

The accident, which was filmed by an audience member, shows the women beginning the routine and within seconds the entire apparatus collapsed crashing down on all. Screams could be heard on the 32 second video.

Local officials reported eleven people were brought to the hospital, due to the accident and seven were admitted.
