Senator Ends 15 Hour Filibuster with GOP Agreement; Trump, Clinton Weigh in on Issue

Senator Chris Murphy, (D-CT) launched a senate filibuster that lasted for 15 long hours as the junior senator marched through the mass killings America has endured until the Republicans an agreement on gun control could be reached.

Taking over the senate floor at 11:20 Wednesday, Murphy announced his intent as the world is still reeling from the senseless murders of 50 patrons at a nightclub in Florida by a man who had been on the FBI Terror Watch List and who they deemed a non-threat.

"I've had enough. I've had enough of the ongoing slaughter of innocents, and I've had enough of inaction in this body," Murphy said during the filibuster which he launched around 11:21 a.m. Wednesday. He vowed to remain on the Senate floor "until we get some signal, some sign that we can come together," as reported on NBC.com.

According to senate rules, Murphy would have to stand by his desk on the chamber floor to maintain control of the floor. He did.

He began his march toward change with the recent mass shooting and ended more than 15 hours later with Sandy Hook and a picture of Dylan Hockley in a superman t-shirt and the story of a teacher, Anne Marie Murphy a dedicated educator who gave her life trying to save his. Sandy Hook murders claimed the lives of 27, six dedicated educators and 21 first and second graders.

The filibuster ended Thursday with a commitment from GOP members that they would allow a vote on Gun Control measure including background checks, banning people on the terror watch list, the no-fly list and those with a diagnosed mental instability, even if correctable by medicine.

The measures appear simple common sense inclusions and considerations. As ISIS/ISIL moves its focus from central Europe to America the threat of terror attacks on America soil increases. Common sense Gun Control measure are necessary to protect all citizens those who swear by strict interpretation of the second amendment and those who prefer common sense protections.

Donald Trump, Republican Presidential Nominee, who has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association, is meeting with the largest of Gun owners and advocate association today in hopes of securing a agreement to ban gun sales for anyone on the Terror Watch lost and the no-Fly list.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Democratic Presidential Nominee, stated January 6, 2016 "More than 33,000 Americans are killed by guns each year. It's time to act. As President, I'll take on the gun lobby and fight for commonsense reforms to keep guns away from terrorists, domestic abusers and other violent criminals, including comprehensive background check and closing loopholes that allow guns to fall into the wrong hands."
