Robert Anthony Resendiz, 30, has been charged in the murder of his six month old infant son on December 19, 2017 after he admitted to authorities of using approximately 65% of his strength to silence the baby.

The child was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital where he authorities found bruising and multiple internal injuries including a liver laceration, left wrist fracture laceration to the pancreas and bruising to his left thigh. The child also had bite marks on his body.

Resendiz called 911 at 12:45p.m. indicting his son was not breathing. In his initial statements to police, he then said he awoke and found his son "unresponsive and not breathing."

The infant's mother assisted authorities in establishing a timeline through text messages. She indicated she began texting Resendiz as early as 9:45a.m. "to ensure he was properly caring for their son." He confirmed the child was fine in a reply text at 11:45a.m.

He sent an additional message one hour later indicating the child was not breathing.

Resendiz was taken into custody at the hospital after the child was examined and the child was in grave condition and not expected to survive.

During his statements to police he changed his story and explained the child began to cry and he was unable to stop him. In order to stop the infant he "admitted pressing the infant's legs over his head and bending his body in order to stop him from crying. Resendiz admitted he used approximately 65% of his physical strength to place pressure on the infant and did not release pressure until the baby had stopped moving and was limp." He also admitted to biting the child to elicit a reaction after the child ceased moving.

Resendiz was booked on two charges of felony child abuse and according to court records bond set at $250,000. As the infant survived sixty hours after the assault charges will likely be amended to include First Degree murder of a minor and any other charges possible.
