A lone gunman opened fire on the Umpqua Community College Campus in Roseburg, Oregon this morning killing 13 students and injuring 20 in an all too common scenario that left the shooter “neutralized” and reportedly deceased at the scene.

Police responded to a call on the shooting at 10:30 PST and were in place within four minutes of the first report. The first official tweet went out by 10:45am by Douglas County Firehouse No.2 indicating there are unconfirmed reports of multiple fatalities. It was one hour before “Code 4” alert was sent which indicated no further emergency response teams were needed.

Nearly 20 ambulances and 75 local, state and federal emergency police teams were in place on the nearly 100 acre campus.

Twitter was also used by Douglas County regional officials and hospital personnel to update local residents on the quickly changing, highly charged and fluid situation.

Multiple media outlets are reporting vastly different numbers with the New York Times indicating 10 dead and 7 injured and NBC maintaining 13 dead and 20 injured. Hopefully, the critically injured will survive and not elevate either totals.

“Looks like a total of 13 dead,” tweeted Sherwin Bryce-Pease, United Nations Bureau Chief, (@sherwiebp) who has continued to update his followers through twitter throughout the morning since the story broke at about 10:30am PST.

Life Flight CEO, Michael Griffiths, CEO of Life Flight, says he's been told there are at least six critically injured patients at the community college. They have sent six helicopters to the Roseburg Airport to assist with transporting victims to hospitals. No word yet on which hospitals, He tweeted the six very critical are being airlifted.

PeaceHealth Oregon tweeted three 3 #UCShooting victims at RiverBend, all female between ages of 18 and 34. Others may be transferred here later.”

Mercy Medical Health spokesperson Kathleen Nichol, Tweeted, “We have received 9 patients from the UCC tragedy and 3 more enroute.”
