Earth In HD – Live Streaming from Space

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced the first real time HD video streaming of earth, seen from the International Space station, will be permanently offered through a special streaming link available to everyone.

The views, courtesy of the International Space Station, are real time orbit shots which vary depending on time as it takes the satellite approximately 90minutes to orbit the earth's surface.

A sunset or sunrise occurs every 45 minutes. When the station is in darkness, external camera video may appear black, but it can sometimes provide spectacular views of lightning or city lights below.

NASA describes the opportunity includes internal views when the crew is on-duty and Earth views at other times.  The live-streaming video also includes conversation between Mission Control and the crew.

"This video" NASA said, "is only available when the space station is in contact with the ground. During "loss of signal" periods, viewers will see a blue screen."
