World News: Emmanuel Macron and .... the Others

In the absence of a credible political opposition, Macronism, always indefinite, stands out as the dominant ideology because it is the only one in the running. And if this domination is not political substance, it is enough.

For the moment.

A few weeks ago, we tried, not without difficulty, to define Macronism. A vast undertaking that had led to an analysis highlighting the capacity of the presidential thought to operate a kind of symbiosis of liberal and progressive ideologies, both tinged after the stroke of pragmatism.

The recent European elections which, without strengthening or weakening it, have allowed Macronism to continue to express themselves without much opposition, seem to be open to the President-in-Office. And that's where the problem lies.

Not that Macronism, if it exists, is harmful for the country, only history will tell in a few decades, but the absence of political opposition credible so far in France allows the President of the Republic and his majority to act without risk of lasting challenge.

Certainly, the movement of Yellow Vests disrupted Macronnian mechanics but the days passing it looks more like a grain of sand in the wheels than a real obstacle. It must therefore be recognized that there is no France, or there is more, remains to know for how long, valid political opposition able to exercise power.

From the Socialist Party to the Republicans through the insubordinate France none has proposed sufficiently seductive speech, namely creative, innovative, imaginative, both anchored in modernity in the need to preserve the foundations of our social model.

Observation and Poverty

As obvious evidence, the intellectual poverty of the political proposals allowed the affirmation of Macronism and the rise of the National Movement, emblem of the ideological mediocrity in which part of the country has sunk.

Does this mean that light will come from Macronism? It is up to everyone to judge but to read carefully the intentions of the President of the Republic and his majority, there is no light, no genius, no revolution. Just an adaptation to the evolutions of the society (besides the ecologist shade that will take the quinquennium, following the results of the European elections obtained by Europe Ecology the Greens), proves it.

More concretely, two territories have emerged in France for several years: the first, urban, enamored of modernity, cultivated and open to the changes that the world knows; the second, rural, remote from urban centers, its poles of culture, nourishing a sense of abandonment and ready to respond to populist mermaids. It would be excessive, however, to blame the dying parties for this situation even if their share of responsibility remains intact.

First of all, because it appears that peoples and mentalities have evolved faster than the political speeches addressed to them. The digital revolution cut the grease of political parties that were still wondering about the future effects of this revolution when it had already disrupted the social ecosystem.

"Lack of responsiveness, intelligence and anticipation" argue some. The argument is valid but partial because the digital revolution has not overwhelmed the French political parties.

Social Model and Obsolescence

All the formations of the same order, in any country of the world, had to face the consequences of this instantaneous influx of information, this destabilizing immediacy and the economic upheavals engendered by this same revolution. The other reason is naturally the obsolescence of long-standing ideologies of French political life.

Liberalism and socialism were in turn fighting over the ideological primacy, occupying the supreme or executive functions under the seal of alternation as implied (and still implied the Constitution of the Fifth Republic).

But today, the effects of globalization and the digital revolution bus and consummate what are the implications of these discourses on French society? What is their influence? Does the social model of ours, the welfare state erected into a republican cult, still need to feed on the models of yesteryear?

The question remains unanswered because to date it has not found answers and Macronism, here again history will tell, is either the gateway to new currents of thought, or because nature hates the empty, a substitute for circumstances capable of responding to current aspirations. For the moment...
