Updated: Associated Press Reports Attempted Turkish Coup; 264 Dead

The Associated Press has reported an attempted Turkish Coup initiated from a group within the military resulting in gunfire exchanges in two locations, Ankara the capital and Istanbul, the scene of the recent terror attack.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim admitted an attempted coup had taken place and was quickly squashed. The fighting lasted six hours and ended with the rebels neutralized.

The AP also reported shots fired and military activity within the capital. Military aircraft, helicopters and military vehicles were present in the streets.

More than 1000 soldiers reportedly took part in the coup attempt and have been arrested

Major transportation hubs within the capital of Ankara and Istanbul have been closed including the airport and bridges.
