Business News: STAR WARS Hits Fevered Frenzy in U.S.; Fails to Register Globally (Graphics)

The expectation of the next chapter in the STAR WARS chronicles has hit a frenzied pitch in the United States as fans are showing their support for the famed franchise in every way except the most common: A like on the Facebook page.

Facebook statistics, an acceptable standard for polling global social media trends, show that while Star Wars fans are poised on lunacy in the United States, including engaging in cosplay and braving the elements for the coveted first ticket, the celebrated next chapter in the forty year old film family barely manages to muster interest internationally.

The social media utility, with over one billion users, is painting a rather bleak picture on the international strength of the endearing franchise as fan interest and distribution registered by country reveal “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” barely manages to gain a single “like” or “follower” in some nations.

Facebook statistics tells a stark and dreary story of the films international potential. The heaviest concentration of fans, of course, is in North America, the United States and Canada. Should Facebook statistics prove true the marketing blitz in the United States and Canada will establish the bulk of the franchises box office receipts.

Not to say Europeans have totally forgotten about the success of the 1977 original film for which the franchise is based. Statistically, however Europe’s Balkan region, not the highest populated region, has the second largest concentration of “likes” on Facebook.

London, The U.K. Central Europe, France, Germany, The Nordic nations where one would expect a solid box office are failing to register even one “like” on the social media utility.

Other tea leaf signals of doom come from a three months analysis of the micro messaging social media platform Twitter which sadly only experienced a single lift off with an accumulated following of 1.8million.

Q4 for the franchise wasn’t the social media blitz, teetering on shutting down the platform, as fans from around the world took to social media ecosystem to enter in the many contests and intergalactic battles of the information stratosphere that are available to the creative.

The Studio ordered embargo on reviews also doesn’t bode well either for the sequel to the iconic pop culture creation as these types of orders usually spell doom or disaster.

If the Titanic does sink and “Star Wars” fails to generate the billion dollar ten day box office insiders are expecting it will be one the biggest disappointment the Mouse House has faced since the 300million dollar write down from the Mars fantasy, JOHN CARTER followed by the equally disappointing “The Lone Ranger.”

Fan favorite George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and others are enough to drive the initial wave of curiosity seekers to the box office coupled with the 4M+ registered Facebook Fans in the United States the massive production should break some box office records; upsetting all-time records remains to be seen.

May the force be with you.
