Jayson Brunsdon Spring Collection - A Destination of the Imagination

Australian Jayson Brunsdon previewed his 2008 Spring/Summer collection at New York's IMG Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week seducing the audience with his alluring visions of the famed Far East.

Once only a destination of the imagination, the Far East has for centuries held allure for dreamers, innovative thinkers and explorers. This collection has been twenty years in the making.

Mr. Brunsdon's influences are the Far Eastern Cultures of Singapore, his native Australia and destinations of the imaginations both known and unknown past and present.

Mr. Brunsdon drew inspiration for his Spring/Summer 2008 from the historic Hong Kong film industry of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The novel and film, “The World of Suzie Wong ” describes a Hong Kong party girl with liberal attitudes before her time and larger than life Martial Arts expert Bruce Lee and the dynamic cinematography associated with his films are incorporated into the line’s style, design and color.

He has sculpted his collection around the centuries old traditions found in Chinese Culture incorporating abstract visions of bamboo, lotus blossoms and calligraphy into the garments design through authentic silk screening.

Previewing twenty-nine garments, he utilized strong colors associated with the Orient of Red, Jade and Coral. Vibrant blocks of colors and the balance of black and white. The styles are given classic names associated with modern and ancient Hong Kong: Ming Yellow Kowloon, Red Beijing, Ivory Blossom and Peacock Hong Kong. The names alone invoke imaginations, recollections, allure and mystery.

Brunsdon utilized fabrics of silk charmeuse, Australian Merino Wool gauze, coolie cotton, and linens. The garments were the statement with little use of trim or ornamental displays. The seductive strength of Suzie Wong was present in the hemlines and revelation of side slits in the garments.

The Far East of the past seduced men and kingdoms with their riches and mystery: The contemporary Far East, not so much a mystery and yet, still very much a seduction and always a destination of the imagination.

Jayson Brunsdon is an Australian designer label aimed at women who take an emotive pleasure in the appreciation of modern elegance with a whiff of cinematic drama.
