Disgraced Hollywood Mogul Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty

Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood producer who propelled many to Oscar victory winning loyalty and devotion, has been found guilty by a Manhattan jury of sex crimes which could send the disgraced titan to prison for decades.

The seven-man five women jury, who indicated had at one time they were deadlocked, convicted the once formidable power broker on two counts of the five count indictment, first degree sexual assault and third degree rape, acquitting him on three of the more serious charges which could have sent the convicted rapist to prison for life.

After the guilty verdicts were announced Judge James Burke ordered Weinstein, who faces 29 years in prison, to jail. He was handcuffed and escorted out of the courtroom.

Jurors deliberated five days after the six-week trial before acquitting Weinstein on predatory sexual assault involving the two women, Miriam Haley and Jessica Mann.

Weinstein was initially charged with first degree criminal sexual act, two counts of rape and two counts of predatory sexual assault. Six former victims testified recalling the trauma, violence and torture suffered. Weinstein’s attorneys argued all sex acts were consensual. The prosecution argued he used his position and power to prey upon these women and many others and to force their silence or destruction of their career if they dared report him.

Many of the survivors of the Weinstein predatory violence era were outside the courthouse.

New York is not the last court room that Weinstein and his team of attorneys will see as he is waiting to be extradited to Los Angeles to face similar charges stemming from decades of rape and victimization of women, many of which were young actresses who were lured to the home or hotel room where the predator would rape or force the women into performing sex acts.

Weinstein has yet, two days after being order to Riker’s Island, to enter the New York State prison system. The deterioration in his physical health resulted in a hospital stay. He has allegedly hired a prison consultant. He will be formally sentenced March 11, 2020. His attorneys indicted an appeal is already in the works.

Many who have spoken out since the verdict speak of the power structure in Hollywood that allows or tolerate what was considered the trade off, during the era of tolerance for violence against women, that resulted in the sexual assaults of hundreds of women.

World News: Culture Broth

The entertainment industry has obviously tolerated the violence against women for decades, as the sheer volume of women in both the Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein cases total nearly 500 and those are the once brave enough to come forward to risk a unspoken blacklist and be labeled “trouble” or other ambiguous code names for refusing to tolerate rape and sexual violence.

The Entertainment Industry is not the only hiding place for predators as in the last decade the following individuals and organizations have been exposed and held accountable for the violence, exploitation and rapes of millions of victims.

This list is far from complete and only represents those who have been exposed: The Catholic Church; The Boy Scouts; Larry Nassar, The Girls US Olympic Team and Michigan State Physician; Jerry Sandusky, Defense Coordinator Penn State; Bill Cosby; Richard Strauss, Ohio State University Wrestling Coach; Harvey Weinstein; OxFam Staff in Haiti; UN Peacekeeping Forces in Haiti, Matt Lauer, NBC Anchor; Steve Wynn, Jeffrey Epstein, Eliot Spitzer (Former New York State Governor (Prostitution)), Eric Schneiderman (New York State, AG), Solomon "Sol" Wachtler (New York State Supreme Court Chief Justice 1993) Leslie Moonves, plus 201 other powerful men, as profiled in the New York times article accessed via this link: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/11/10/us/men-accused-sexual-misconduct-weinstein.html

Power brokers in every profession, including New York Corporate Lawyers and Church organizations two of the most common hiding places for predators, are hoping the power seal holds tight and keeps their crimes from being exposed.
