Topic Acquires North American Rights to Documentary Feature "Eli: A Dog In Prison"

Topic, the streaming service from First Look Media, announced they have acquired North American rights to the documentary Eli: A Dog In Prison for an August 12th world premiere on Vimeo On-Demand and on Topic August 26, 2021.

Nora Mandray and Jason B. Kohl direct and produce the story of a future seeing eye dog unlike any other.

Eli is a rambunctious but loveable Labrador puppy who turns three convicted felons' world upside down when he arrives at their prison cell. The film follows the three prisoners, who form an unlikely bond as they struggle to transform Eli into a highly-disciplined guide dog in just twelve months, all while charting their own an uncertain path to rehabilitation in the broken American prison system.

"We are honored to be the home of Eli: A Dog In Prison's world premiere," said Ryan Chanatry, General Manager of Topic.  "With the American prison system rightfully at the forefront of the national discourse, Elishows us a perspective unlike any we've seen.  As Eli himself warms hearts, Nora and Jason weave a story that will open eyes and spark important conversations about inequality in the system and what must change."

"We are excited to share this intimate story of redemption in the unlikeliest of places," said Jason B. Kohl, one of the film's directors. "We hope it will encourage audiences to show more compassion to the people trapped inside of our justice system, and to reconsider the harshness of their sentences."
